Work Location : Dining Center
Job Summary :
The Swing Cook will assist the cooks in food preparation and may be assigned to act as lead cook for specified meal periods.
Primary Responsibilities
- Prepare food for future meals using computer-generated production sheets and recipes, including cutting vegetables for recipes, panning up food, cooking off items, and labeling and dating all prepared food
- Pull frozen food from the freezer by following a pull list generated by the cook or the manager
- Keep prep and storage areas clean and organized
- Record on production sheets what prep has been done and its location
- Perform other prep work as assigned
Line of Report : The Swing Cook reports to the Executive Chef in the Dining Center.
Minimum Qualifications
1 year food preparation experience, including basic cooking in commercial and / or institutional foodservice operation
Professional Competencies
- Ability to read and follow recipes and production sheets
- Ability to portion, cut, slice, score, julienne, whip, beat, or otherwise prepare food
- Demonstrated ability to utilize dining service equipment such as slicer, deep fryer, grill and steamer
- Proficiency in communicating orally and in writing to co-workers and management

Special Requirements
- Ability to obtain and maintain PA Act 153 background checks
- Possession of a valid U.S. Drivers’ License and ability to pass a Motor Vehicle Record check
- Current Serv Safe certification or the ability to obtain certification
- Current Aller-train certification or the ability to obtain certification
- Availability to work catered events and special functions
