Haverford College invites applications to our available full-time, exempt, benefit-eligible Director of Admission Communications position.
The Director of Admission Communications directs the development and execution of Haverford’s admission marketing and communications program. In addition to engaging with strategic planning and implementation of communications efforts, duties include researching, writing, designing, editing, and producing clear and compelling communications pieces for print, web, video, and social media; the creation and management of communications-related initiatives to a variety of constituencies; and the development of strategic marketing programs, often guided by market research.

Essential Functions & Primary Responsibilities:
Specific list of responsibilities would include, but not be limited to:
- Develop and implement communications and marketing strategies geared towards prospective students, parents, college counselors, and other constituencies. This would include researching marketing strategies and trends and analysis of the impact of implemented strategies.
- Research, write, edit, design, and assist in the production of original and compelling promotional material for a variety of purposes and media including web site copy, marketing collateral, letters, announcements, presentations, event invitations, newsletters, publications, video, and social media. Publications include, but may not be limited to, a viewbook, student recruitment collateral, brochures, surveys, college guide submissions, fliers, postcards, posters, other printed and electronic announcements.
- Responsibility for independently researching and brainstorming ideas for producing Haverford-related content. This would include interviewing faculty, students, and other sources for articles, and writing news articles, profiles and features that comprise the produced content.
- Write for and update the Admission web pages, maintain the department's presence in social media, and assist with multiple electronic communications. Must be comfortable using a content management system to create and update pages as needed. Other responsibilities may include special writing assignments and video story development.
- Lead Admission-related market research by managing the process whereby areas of interest are identified, and then managing the relationship with relevant consultants.
- Maintain and manage brand-related style and usage guidelines, while developing compelling – and compliant – instances of branding across all media.
Line of Report: The Director of Admission Communications reports to the Associate Vice President of College Communications and the Vice President & Dean of Admission and Financial Aid. This position has no direct reports.
Education, Training, & Experience:
- A Bachelor’s degree and five years of experience in an undergraduate admissions setting or related educational fields, either as an admission officer or communications specialist
- Writing, proofreading, and editing skills. Experience with and knowledge of communication concepts and principles including professional journalistic procedure, practices, and styles.
- Ability to independently gather information through research and interviews. Skills to understand and translate complex admission policies and procedures in order to write clear, accurate, and compelling copy in an appropriate form for diverse audiences and publications.
- Experience with Macintosh and Windows-based computer environments; familiarity with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and a web content management system.
- Experience with brand stewardship is essential, while a hands-on command of design software such as InDesign and Illustrator an important plus.
- Strong project management skills, including the ability to clearly communicate expectations regarding any given project and to work collaboratively on job specifications/instructions with designers, photographers, printers, and other vendors to ensure quality, including reviewing proofs and attending photo shoots and press checks
- Ability to conceptualize, design, prepare, and produce creative and original copy for promotional literature under very limited supervision
- Be entrepreneurial and innovative, including initiating story ideas and instituting best practices in communications
- Make independent judgments on newsworthy topics and materials
- Interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills to work within a diverse community, to establish and maintain good working relationships with alumni, faculty, staff, students, and the public, and to express ideas clearly and concisely.
- Organizational skills to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines and to establish goals and workload priorities under very limited supervision
- Deadline-oriented.
