ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION:
Title of Position:
- PRINCIPAL BOOKKEEPER - ACCOUNTS PAYABLE

Anticipated Opening:
Work Year: 12 Months.
Effective Date of Employment: Immediately.
Salary: $39,040 to $44,130.
Organizational Relationship or Line of Authority:
- Directly responsible to the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations and/or his or her designee.
Statement of Duties:
- Assists in the administration of the fiscal affairs of the School Department effectively, expeditiously and to the ultimate benefit of each individual student enrolled.
- Performs the day-to-day processing of accounts payable and payroll transactions, as appropriate, to ensure that grant fund and budget accounts are maintained in an effective, up to date and accurate manner.
- Verifies invoices for goods and services against purchase orders and returns invoices to the vendor if there is not an approved purchase order number
- Checks figures, postings, and documents for correct entry, mathematical accuracy, and proper coding.
- Verifies that transactions comply with federal, state, and district’s policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Originates, prepares and processes requisitions and purchase orders, as advisable.
- Prepares warrants and journal entries for payment of financial obligations.
- Records and prepares vendor checks for mailing.
- Provides administrative support in order to ensure effective and efficient business office operations by maintaining a filing system for all financial documents and ensuring the confidentiality and security of all financial files.
- Assists staff and vendors with questions and problems involving invoicing and payments.
- Assists external auditors at fiscal year-end as required.
- Assists, and substitutes for, other staff members with accounts payable, grants, payroll, filing, reporting and other financial duties carried out by them, as appropriate.
- Assists in preparation of the school district budget, and periodic budget, grant, student activity fund, purchase card and accounts reports, including the end-of-year report, as appropriate.
- Reports to the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations on accounting affairs of the School Department and recommends changes and improvements as needed.
- Assumes responsibilities for any other duties as indicated by the Assistant Superintendent for Finance and Operations or his/her designee, the Superintendent of Schools or his/her designee, and policies of the Haverhill School Committee.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma required. Associate or Bachelor’s degree in financial field preferred.
- Minimum of five years accounting experience in public and/or municipal environment.
- Demonstrated excellent oral, written, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated computer proficiency.
- Experience with InfiniteVisions preferred.
- Experience with Excel required.
- Must be able to daily plan, prioritize, organize, and accomplish work.
- Strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving abilities, and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently within a fast-paced environment and adhere to mandated deadlines.
- Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Business Manager and the Superintendent of Schools may find appropriate and acceptable.
