POSITION FUNCTION SUMMARY:

The Accountant is a critical role within the Finance and Accounting Department. In this role, the Accountant will be responsible for the maintenance of financial data that supports effective management and decision making throughout the organization. The Accountant position will be responsible for recording financial transactions and preparing account analyses. The Accountant will also be expected to optimize Management Information Processing (MIP) General Ledger and other module utilization while assisting in the preparation of monthly and annual reports. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Responsible for specific duties such as:
  • Accounts Payable (AP) functions to maintain compliance with annual budget.
  • Assist with contract/grant administration, including reporting.
  • Make bank deposits as requested.
  • Assist with maintenance of Chart of Accounts and make recommendations for account changes, when need is recognized.
  • Assist with recording of events in the General Ledger through journal entries or processes, and monthly GL reconciliation in order to close each month and year and prepare for annual audits.
  • Assist with General Ledger reconciliation monthly, and annually prior to audits.
  • Support and cross-train in other accounting positions for back up when needed, and to assure smooth flow in operations, while maintaining separation of duties.
  • Day-to-day general accounting tasks as assigned.
  • Perform assigned month-end closing activities including journal entries, and account analysis, to ensure its integrity and timeliness.
  • Prepare and review supporting schedules related to monthly and annual financial statement closing process for specifically assigned accounts (ie. grants, contracts).
  • Assist in monthly financial statement review.
  • Investigate material variances in key income statement line items from budget and prior periods, as requested.
  • Perform special analysis/research as required.
  • Contribute to the external audit process with supporting documents, preparing schedules, and answering inquiries, and any other preparation as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

  • 4 years related accounting experience preferred.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s in Accounting or similar field required.
  • Experience with Management Information Processing (MIP) or similar accounting software desirable.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Excel.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent attention to detail and time-management skills.
  • Ability to plan and manage multiple projects.
  • Must work well in a team environment.

The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. There are no known environmental hazards on the premises. Work environment is often stressful. Work is mostly inside, and normal office worker safety precautions and practices are required.

All employees are offered the opportunity to receive the Hepatitis B vaccination series.

Equipment Use:

Frequent use of telephone system and office equipment including but not limited to computer, printer, facsimile machine, copier and general office equipment.

Work Hours:

40 hour weeks, unless specific arrangements. Overtime may be required.

Mental Demands:

Duties require attention to detail, alertness, problem solving, tolerance to stress and exercising sound judgment. Good stress reduction and

management skills are essential.

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as government regulations and guidelines, patient records, operating and maintenance instructions, procedure manuals, etc.
  • Ability to write at a minimal level of competence, including internal reports and memoranda.
  • Ability to communicate with diverse groups of people to include staff and providers and patients.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with patients and their families to make their visit a pleasant experience.
  • Sensitivity to the multicultural nature of the service area population and may be required to communicate in another language.
