Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Under direct supervision, the Certified Nursing Assistant is responsible for providing direct patient care, i.e., patient hygiene, ambulating, vital signs, and for the performance of specific assignments in designated work area. Adheres to the Mission, Values and Standards of Excellence of Hawarden Regional Medical Center in all aspects of job performance.

1.

Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide service/care appropriate to the age of the patients served, in accordance with Hawarden Regional Healthcare standards. Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations, the Compliance Accountability Program, Code of Ethics, and HRH policies and procedures, including all provisions of the Health Insurance Portability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). In order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical and professional behavior by implementing the organizational vision, values, and mission.

2.

Assists with activities of daily living and patient treatment (i.e., specimen collection) as delegated by the registered nurse.

3.

Obtains vital signs, blood pressures, heights, weights, intakes and outputs, and records information appropriately, accurately and in a timely manner.

4.

Reports deficiencies in-patient care to the registered nurse as they occur to insure that the patient care is adequate and delivered appropriately, specific to the age of patient population identified within the department/unit scope of service, and in accordance with the department/unit standard.

5.

Reports ongoing acquired data and observations resulting from patient care and contact to appropriate person in a timely manner (i.e., patient activity, tolerance, elimination, nutrition).

6.

Assists registered nurse with patient admission, dismissal and post mortem care as necessary.

7.

Transports patient to and from other departments as directed. Escorts patients out of facility as needed.

8.

Responds to patient call lights and/or intercom to determine patient need and takes appropriate action in a timely manner.

9.

Demonstrates ability to prioritize tasks while addressing crisis situations as they arise.

10.

Maintains knowledge and demonstrates competency in the use of patient equipment.

11.

Initiates appropriate measures to insure safety/well-being of patient, family, visitors, and staff (i.e., side rails, restraints, fire, disaster).

12.

Takes responsibility and maintains overall unit organization and safety, and reports discrepancies to appropriate person in a timely manner within limitation of authority

13.

Communicates and cooperates with other departments as necessary.

14.

Recognizes and communicates issues/occurrences utilizing established lines of authority, and assists in identifying ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.

15.

Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. Healthstream, internet, etc.)

16.

Actively participates in departmental meetings, committees, conferences, and in services. Is knowledgeable of and complies with Safety and Infection Control Policies & Procedures. Participates in Continuous Quality Improvement activities as requested. Keeps up to date on new procedures and research. Maintains confidentiality of information pertaining to clients, physicians, employees and HRH business.

17.

Completes all mandatory training such as Healthstream, The Patient Experience, Safe Choices, Crucial Conversations and any other training as designated by Administration.

18.

Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications


QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Has completed a recognized Nursing Assistant Program or comparable and competent medical experience and/or training. Certification preferred.

2. Must be certified in Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS)

3. is able to communicate effectively with all members of the health care team.

4. Is able to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent change.

5. Must have a general working knowledge of computers and department specific software (i.e. healthstream, internet, etc.)
