Analyst/Writer

ENDS Europe is a long-standing environmental news and intelligence service, reporting on EU and European government environmental policymaking as it happens for an international audience of policymakers, policy influencers and industrial regulatory and sustainability managers.

Role summary

We are seeking an ambitious analyst to join our team on the award-winning ENDS Europe Policy Development Tracker. Broader in scope than ENDS Europe’s other services, PDT focuses on the development of all areas of EU policy.

Working directly with our Compliance Editor, you will be responsible for researching, writing up and publishing key policy content. This will include writing daily summaries of environmental legislation and policy, tracking developments in the European Parliament and Council, and updating previous records as required.

Candidates must have an understanding of, and preferably a passion for, environmental policy and legislation. You will need keen research skills as well as an organised and methodical approach to your work.

Close reading and interpreting changes and impacts of policy changes are a key part of the role.

ENDS Europe is part of Haymarket Business Media. This role will require some office-based working at our offices in Twickenham.

Key responsibilities:

• Tracking and researching new policy
• Tracking and keeping legacy policies and summaries up to date
• Writing and publishing summaries for policy content, drawing out key points and providing meaning and context for our audience
• Assisting with research to support the development and production of content for all of the ENDS group titles
• Providing occasional cover on ENDS Compliance’s UK database

Skills and experience

Essential Skills

You will possess:

• At least a basic understanding of European and UK legislative processes
• A keen eye for detail and methodical approach
• Excellent writing skills – the ability to draw out relevant information and produce precise, accurate summaries in line with house style;
• The ability to conscientiously track and record developments;
• A demonstrated understanding of legal writing – either by way of a legal qualification/degree or through previous relevant experience;
• Proven research skills and experience;
• Some experience of using a CMS;
• The ability to tackle unfamiliar and complex topics;

• The ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team ;

Desirable skills

• Some copy-editing experience;
• An ability to analyse data, including skill in manipulating spreadsheets and the ability to apply a narrative to the data;
• Ability to build and maintain professional contacts
• French speaking is an advantage.
