Fuller's Engineering Adhesives segment develops adhesive solutions for the automotive and aerospace, wood and composite, electronics and energy, glass, durable assembly, and bus, truck, rail and recreational vehicle industries. The Senior Scientist leads R&D projects that generate new product, process or method concepts leveraging the Stage-Gate process discipline to meet market and business needs & reports to an R&D manager. In this position the ability to collaborate and communicate across disciplines, functions and regions is highly valued. This Senior Scientist coaches, mentors and guides research of technical colleagues.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Planning and leading large-scale research and development projects, using project management discipline, design of experiment (DOE) methodologies and statistical analysis to draw conclusions and present solutions based on understanding of structure-property-performancerelationships.

  • Generating new product, process or method concepts within an area of specialty.

  • Meeting research goals within time and budget constraints.

  • Providing technical leadership of projects through the Stage-Gate process.

  • Preparing and presenting reports to customers and business leaders.

  • Participating in global or cross-functional project teams, collaborating across functional and regional boundaries.

  • Coaching and mentoring others in the lab.

  • Supporting operations to facilitate scale-up and efficient production of developed technologies.

  • Fulfilling responsibilities as required by the Quality System for the site/business unit.

  • Working in a safe and efficient manner.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and 5 years of professional industry experience OR

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering and 3 years of professional industry experience OR

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.

  • Experience applying and interpreting standard scientific theories, concepts and techniques in a scientific or engineering specialty.

  • Ability to work on a wide range of problems where causal relationships are difficult to establish and the use of creative thinking.

  • Experience generating new product, process or method concepts within an area of specialty.

  • Planning and leading scale projects using project management and Stage-Gate discipline.

  • Demonstrated ability to leverage Design of Experiments (DOE) and statistical tools to drive projects.

  • Ability to deliver internal and customer presentations in a professional manner.

  • Ability to coach and mentor other technical colleagues.

  • Travel up to 5%

Preferred Requirements

  • PhD in Chemistry, Material Science or Chemical Engineering

  • 3 years experience with either Hot Melt, Polyurethane or Water base adhesive or coating technologies

  • 3 years experience with a disciplined product development cycle such as Stage Gate

Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to education, work experience, certifications, and geographic location.

The salary for this role is $95,000 - $123,000.
