The Patient Access Coordinator Demonstrates knowledge of the patient access Emergency registration, Urgent care registration, OP registration and Communication area admitting and registration functions, to include scheduling, telephone communications (switchboard), and insurance and medical necessity verification, eligibility, assuring the hospital is compliant with applicable rules, regulations and laws.   Provides direction and assistance to the Patient Access Associate staff during the hours of 3pm – 11:30pm. Provides coverage support when busy and assists in calling for coverage for call offs during these hours. 

 

Essential duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist the Patient Access Director in passing on information for the department.
  • Assists the Patient Access Director with 90 day evaluation feed back regarding new hires.
  • Maintains up to date knowledge of Communications, ED registration, Urgent care and Out patient registration processes whick include Experian Medical Necessity and eligibility.
  • Monitors face sheets to make sure audits are complete and done with in a three day period from the date of registration.
  • Plans and implements staff development activities by supplying department information on a timely basis and scheduling training and monitoring improvement.
  • Assists the PAD providing information on area’s that need to be reviewed for training review in monthly department meeting.  
  • Prioritize daily department operations and assign work tasks with expectations.
  • Review and organize each shift to provide lunch coverage for staff.
  • Informs PAD of departmental issues and if/when resolved.  Refers all employee issues to the PAD promptly.
  • Motivates staff and maintains a high level of morale among department personnel by fostering a sense of teamwork.
  • Directs staff to perform assigned functions and achieve objectives according to directives.
  •   Coordinates and helps fill in for call off’s, illness and when short staffed.
  • Serves on standing and/or ad-hoc committees as needed.
  • Maintains the integrity of confidential patient information in accordance with HIPAA and hospital policy, including accessing, using and disclosing patient information relevant to the individual employee’s job duties. Also maintains confidentiality of other customer and hospital business affairs.
  • Adheres to the standards of Magruder Hospital’s corporate compliance policies and seeks guidance and training when necessary to resolve questions about the policies. Reports violations in accordance with corporate compliance and organizational standards.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; Shows respect for co-workers by following established break times; Keeps personal conversations and telephone calls to a minimum.
  • Communicates and enforces hospital culture, values and standards of performance in a consistent and thorough fashion.
  • Assists in preparing and monitoring department goals.
