Job Summary and Qualifications
The HBO Tech is a qualified person, who under the general supervision of the HBOT Physician Medical Director and Director of Clinical Operations, is responsible for the management of patients requiring HBOT treatments. The HBO Tech assigned to the HBO/Wound Center cares for patients that includes adolescents, adults and geriatrics.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for direct patient care given to his/her assigned patients. Demonstrates competence in assisting nurses, staff or physicians in medical treatments and regularly assists in planning, providing, recording, and evaluating patient care as a member of the nursing team.
- Regularly performs and documents assigned procedures; taking and recording of temperature, blood pressure, pulse and respiration, assessment history; in accordance with established protocol procedures.
- Collects, accurately labels and forwards specimens such as wound cultures for laboratory analysis; demonstrates a reliable and dependable ability to follow through with designated responsibilities involving the care and handling of specimens.
- Always accurately, clearly, and concisely records all pertinent information on the patients record; records all care provided in a detailed manner following established procedures for charting.
- Maintains the knowledge required to provide age appropriate care/services. Provides scope of authorized service (as evidenced by ongoing clinical assessment and certification) to adolescents, adults, and geriatric patients of varying cultural, religious and social backgrounds.
- Maintains clear and respectful communications with patients, family, physicians and other healthcare providers.
- Responsible for informing the RN of any pertinent changes in the condition of the patient.
- Maintains competency in performing skills outlined in the competency skills checklist.
- Assists physician with procedures, as necessary (i.e., assist with positioning patients for procedures) and information needed for the physician to complete history and physical information.
- Completes patient instructions and applicable checklists prior to initiating treatment. Reviews indications and risks as benefits of HBOT with the patient.
- Practices and promotes proper aseptic technique, infection control measures, and body mechanics.
- At all times, delivers care that is safe in conjunction with the physicians orders, Hospital policy and nursing standards.
- May be required to assume responsibility as Safety Officer for the unit.
- Assists in maintenance of a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of a RN. Orients patients to the HBOT environment. Unit safety includes the following:
- prepares the chamber in accordance with all safety regulations and guidelines
- adheres to all policies and procedures relative to safety, including inspections and emergencies
- participates in safety related in-services and activities
- ensures that all patient-related safety measures are completed
- continuously monitors and observes all HBOT patients
- maintains compliance with OSHA standards
- adheres to policies and procedures for cleaning and decontamination of the chambers
- immediately reports any deviation from safety guidelines to Director of Clinical Operations
- Adheres to and complies with HCA Code of Conduct as part of our Ethics and Compliance Program. Attends annual training sessions
QUALIFICATIONS YOU WILL NEED:
Experience:
- Minimum 2 year experience
Education/Certification:
- Graduate of accredited school.
- Education knowledge of general hyperbaric theory.
- The individual must be a graduate of an accredited school or training program for Hyperbaric Medicine within 3 months of employment.
- Professional certification is required as a certified hyperbaric technologist within one year of employment.
- Educational requirements appropriate for meeting age-specific needs of patients assigned to the HBO/ Wound Center. a. Nutrition, i.e., alteration in nutrition, less than body requirements b. Hazards of immobility, i.e., impaired physical mobility c. Impaired verbal communication or special communication needs d. Grieving process e. Alteration in elimination f. Self-care deficit g. Sleep pattern disturbance h. Activity intolerance i. Pain management
Special Qualifications:
- Current CPR certification or must obtain within 30 days of hire date
- Demonstrate thorough knowledge of hyperbaric emergencies
- Once hyperbaric certified employee, must maintain hyperbaric certification appropriately by the National Board of Hyperbaric Medicine
