Job Summary and Qualifications
The LSL LIS Manager on the Lab Service Line Team will build and maintain a group of highly engaged and productive LIS analysts in a “work from home” model to support Meditech platforms for Laboratory end users throughout the Enterprise The manager will promote a professional and supportive culture where team members can grow and develop their skills in a collaborative and proactive work environment. The team is responsible for the implementation, maintenance and optimization of the laboratory information systems to support laboratories and the patients served in the hospital and freestanding ER facilities across our divisions in alignment with the Laboratory Service Line’s goals and initiatives.
The successful LSL LIS Manager will be an effective communicator with great customer service skills in order to build strong working relationships with the teams we work with and support. He or she is tasked with resourcing, developing and growing the teams under his or her oversight to optimize their ability to effectively and proactively meet the LIS needs of the stakeholders in their divisions. Furthermore, the manager will work effectively with the LSL LIS management team to standardize processes and LIS settings across the Enterprise to allow for optimal LIS support throughout HCA, and to operationalize sharing of expertise and resources across divisions.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES
• Responsible for technical and managerial leadership in establishing goals and priorities and in the overall management of current and planned laboratory information systems and services within an HCA division or multiple divisions.
• Meets with corporate, division, and facility-level leadership teams, as needed, to align strategy, services, and coordinate implementation activities.
• Responsible for personnel management, performance reviews, competency development, and coaching of staff.
• Builds and maintains relationships with business operations, IT&S leaders, and vendors.
• Participates in resource planning and allocates resources to meet goals of the laboratory information systems service areas, IT&S goals and business priorities.
• Organizes, plans, assigns, and monitors completion of work.
• Participates in the development of corporate and division-level laboratory information systems application standards, policies, and procedures.
• Ensures that the design and use of laboratory information systems adhere to established HCA policies, procedures, and standards.
• Leads analysis of organizational needs for development and implementation of laboratory information systems applications; interfaces with users to ensure that applications are developed which meet their business and specifications.
• Assists the director in the development of the budget and develops project cost estimates for division and/or facilities.
• Ensures that service resources are assigned for the timely resolution of LIS incidents and requests.
• Works with enterprise subject matter experts and services resources and the enterprise Service Desk in managing resolution of LIS incidents and requests.
• Creates an environment that encourages information sharing, team-based resolutions, cross-training, and process improvement within the area and across organizational boundaries.
• Grows the support capabilities for LIS support throughout the Enterprise.
• Coordinates the sharing of best practice models, and policies & procedures related to laboratory information systems and applications.
• Participates in activities to improve departmental and organizational performance.
• Establishes and maintains relationships with outside vendors of IT&S products, professional organizations, contract employees, co-ops, external auditors, and consultants.
• Builds strong relationships with LIS user groups across HCA, support teams, IT&S managers and directors.
• Manages resources in assigned divisions to meet team goals and objectives efficiently and within optimal timeframes.
• Works collaboratively with teams throughout the Enterprise to achieve Lab Service Line objectives.
• Supports implementation of Enterprise projects.
• Serves as a resource to others throughout the Enterprise as a SME in areas of expertise.
• Promotes system security and patient confidentiality and helps ensure compliance.
• Builds strong relationships with core customer base (lab directors and med techs, etc.).
• Adheres to HCA Code of Conduct and Mission & Value Statement
• Participates in special projects as needed and performs other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED:
Seven or more years Laboratory Information Systems experience and/or Laboratory management experience.
PREFERRED:
Proficiency with Meditech 5.6 Lab modules
EDUCATION
Bachelors degree required
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Required: • Understanding of clinical operations and processes • Understands pertinent JCAHO, HIPAA, and CAP guidelines • Demonstrated ability to establish and build strong relationships across a broad range of personality types • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with clinical and information technology personnel verbally and in writing • Demonstrated customer orientation • Excellent leadership and teaching abilities • Demonstrated advanced computer skills • Must be able to drive to assigned sites to complete work Preferred: • Proficiency in various programming and clinical application reporting tools • Customer service orientation and/or training
CERTIFICATE/LICENSE: Licensing or credentials within specific clinical specialty preferred, if available. Possession/Maintenance of specialty clinical licensure is strongly desired. Valid state driver’s license and proof of auto insurance, if applicable.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: Requires prolonged sitting, some bending, stooping and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator and other office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare and communicate appropriate reports. Work is performed in an office environment. Work may be stressful at times. Contact may involve dealing with angry or upset people. Staff must remain flexible and available to provide staffing assistance for any/all disaster or emergency situations. Travel between facilities in a geographic zone may be required.
