Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Description: 

The NICU RN provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures and protocols of the healthcare organization. 

The Neonatal ICU (NICU) Unit is considered Level 2 and Level 3 – Level 2 is capped at 6 babies and Level 3 is able to treat 10 babies. The patients on this unit are newborn (0 – 3 mos.). The NICU RN will care for the medical needs of the premature and/or severely ill newborn infants including testing and administering medications as well as the basic needs such as feeding, cleaning and diaper changes. This unit is for premature infants that are born at this hospital (gestational age 25-37 weeks). 

In this position, you will: 

  • Assess plans and evaluates patient care needs 
  • Carry out physician orders 
  • Administer prescribed medications, changes dressings, cleans wounds, monitors vital signs 
  • Monitor, records and communicates patient condition as appropriate utilizing computerized documentation systems

 What qualifications you will need:

  • Licensed RN in the state of Florida, or
  •  Recognized compact licensure (subject to Florida State Licensing Requirements, including/not limited to ongoing eligibility and duration provision) 
  • Graduate from a professional accredited school of nursing preferred 
  • Current BLS Certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross) 
  • NRP Certification (30 Day Grace Period) Stable Certification (180 Day Grace Period)
  •  1 year of ICU nursing experience preferred 

HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital is a 380-bed acute-care hospital. Offering a full range of services. We are home to the most experienced Heart Institute on the Treasure Coast. Lawnwood Hospital provides interventional and therapeutic care, including open-heart surgery. Other hospital services include labor/delivery, pediatrics, orthopedics, oncology, nuclear medicine, adult and pediatric emergency services, and diagnostic services. We also offer inpatient, and outpatient surgical services.

Lawnwood Hospital is a designated Certified Primary Stroke Center. The Physical Rehabilitation Center is CARF accredited. We are a Level II Trauma Center. We are verified by the American College of Surgeons. We offer a freestanding ER in Vero Beach. We provide emergency treatment for adults and children.
