What are the responsibilities and job description for the Custodian position at hcwp/CX_1/?
This position provides general cleaning of plant facilities and supplementary security observation.
All Saxonburg custodians require full time status (not contract) due to various security requirements. We would like this candidate to be well experienced in floor care mechanics and proper operation of floor machines, correct chemical mixtures, etc. Overall custodial cleaning experience is a requirement ranging from restroom cleaning, proper PPE and instruction in consideration with current pandemic issues. Candidate needs to take an active role in overall cleaning requirements and assisting site management in improving efforts based on experience and observation.
Education:
- High school graduate.
Experience:
- Three (3) to five (5) years’ work experience with a minimum of two (2) years’ experience in custodial work within a manufacturing environment.
- Experience in operating machinery associated with the position helpful. Strong preference for experience in maintaining production areas and clean rooms.
- Experience preferred in floor care mechanics and proper operations of floor machines, correct chemical mixtures, etc.

Responsibilities:
- Routine cleaning and maintenance; highly visible areas are cleaned on a regular basis including, but not limited to:
- Vacuum office areas weekly
- Empty trash containers in common areas
- Transfer trash from collection hoppers to dumpster
- Wipe window sills, window interiors
- Maintain vinyl flooring, including stripping/waxing as required
- Stairwells are maintained
- Papers and other work related materials are not to be distrubed in work stations and offices
- Major cleaning (production areas)
- Production area walls, floors, ceilings are kept clean and done so in a safe manner. Floors are to be kept cleaned and waxed to reduce particulate contamination. Major activities coordinated with Production personnel.
- All production parts, tooling. And other miscellaneous production related materials are to be protected. Materials and tools are not to be relocated by Custodians without Production personnel approval.
- All hazardous materials, whether owned by the Production department or Physical Plant department, are to be handled in a safe responsible manner.
- All cleaning chemicals are to be properly labeled.
- Ensure that all regulatory programs are adhered to, specifically the procedure for introducing new chemicals into use.
- Special training is required to ensure compliance with accepted clean room maintenance practices.
- Equipment/machinery
- Learn proper method of using machinery prior to use. All custodians are to be capable of using floor stripping and waxing equipment.
- Follow proper maintenance schedules and practices for all machinery.
- Coordinate repairs with Physical Plant technicians if unable to safely perform repairs.
- Maintain an appropriate level of consumable parts, e.g., belts, rubber wiper blades, etc.
- Ensure proper operability of rest room equipment, e.g., soap dispensers, paper product dispensers.
- Grounds maintenance
- Assist Physical Plant technicians and outside contractors in snow removal on walkways around campus buildings.
- General
- Maintain appropriate stocking levels of cleaning materials and paper products.
- Replace lighting in general areas when cleaning as required. Advise Physical Plant electricians of lamps that custodians are unable to replace.
- Supplement plant security by monitoring activities of outside contractors as required.
- Check all building perimeter doors to ensure that they are secure at the start of shift.
Working Conditions:
- Various interior and exterior, including plant floor, office areas, grounds
- Exposure to noise, dust, fumes
- Exposure to hazardous chemicals used on-site
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to reach, bend, stoop, push, pull and lift up to 50 lbs.
Safety Requirements:
- All employees are required to follow the site EHS procedures and II-VI Corporate EHS standards.
