Primary Responsibilities
In the role of the Design Services Manager, we'll count on you for:
Management and Leadership (40%):
- Supervise and mentor discipline section managers and key staff.
- Support recruiting efforts through communicating and vetting hiring needs with section managers.
- Maintain short- and long-term workload forecasting data with section managers.
- Act as business group coordinator and liaison between BES and other HDR business groups.
- Promote BES brand with our internal and external clients with superior communication and service.
- Collaborate with business class leads (technical expertise) and section manager efforts within area operations, marketing, and project management.
- Participate in business class technical practice and professional discipline groups, project teams, and activities to continually improve standards and best practices and foster the BES team culture.
- Take responsibility for team/technical/skill/personal development strategies, technical services, quality, and production methods and standards, all within established goals and objectives of the business group, region, and company.
- Take responsibility for operations of sections including staff development, budget monitoring, morale, quality control and marketing support.
- Manage and develop multidiscipline teams.
- Coordinate with project managers to obtain and monitor scope/schedule/budget information and build a culture of trust and cooperation.
- See that all work is planned, organized, controlled, and monitored through proactive project management systems.
- Implement, monitor, and support company policy.
- Assist with professional recognition write-ups and provide coaching to align team members with requirements and expectations for acknowledgement.
- Actively engaged in professional or industry associations to enhance HDR brand awareness, technical expertise, and local relationship development.
Project Delivery (60%):
- Provide Project Management and/or Technical Design for projects in accordance with HDR and client requirements for scope, schedule, and budget.
- Provide design management for large projects to provide leadership and a single point of contact for coordination of multi-disciplined projects.
- Provide Quality Review on projects within subject matter expertise and in accordance with HDR Quality program.
- Lead scope and fee development for implementation of single and multi-discipline BES proposals to internal and external clients.
- Develop consistent deliverables adhering to HDR and Client requirements.
- Perform other duties as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical, Structural, Architecture or closely related Engineering degree
- Minimum 10 years' experience in project delivery, planning, and engineering management.
- Professional registration or license
- Competence in cross-disciplinary design management and in leading and motivating diverse technical and project teams.
- History of successfully supporting business development strategies to grow new market sectors.
- Experience managing staff resources.
- History and reputation for quality and continuous improvement
- Demonstrated ability to provide constructive feedback and initiate discussions to resolve problems, motivate staff, and coordinate work.
- Competence in Microsoft Word, Excel, Project, and Bluebeam
- Commitment to promoting HDR values.

- PMP
- Well networked in local A/E community.

The expected compensation range for this position is $123,004- $175,720 annually depending upon skills, experience, education and geographical location. (Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.)
