Primary Responsibilities

HDR is seeking a Traffic/Planning Intern to help expand our services in the Midwest, with a focus on Missouri and Kansas. The position would report to the Traffic and Planning Section in St. Louis, Missouri.

The individual in this position supports all aspects of multimodal traffic engineering and transportation planning projects that may include:

  • Transportation plans - local, regional and statewide.
  • Design of traffic signals, lighting, maintenance-of-traffic (MOT), Intelligent Transportation Systems, signing, and pavement marking.
  • Traffic engineering studies such as speed studies, signal warrants, parking studies, access management, travel time, traffic impact studies, etc.
  • Use of large datasets (HERE, INRIX, etc.) to support model building, calibration, and analysis.
  • Operational analysis using both microsimulation and deterministic models.
  • Transportation planning reports.
  • Transportation sustainability analysis.
  • Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure planning and siting.
  • Transit studies (rail and bus).
  • Bicycle and pedestrian studies.
  • Corridor studies.
  • Transportation demand forecasting/modeling inputs and outputs.
  • Grant-writing assistance.
  • Environmental documents.
  • Use of large datasets (HERE, INRIX, etc.) to support transportation analysis.
  • Geospatial analysis and mapping.
  • Transportation research.
  • Transportation safety studies

The individual in this position uses analytical tools and software to perform transportation analyses and contributes technical elements to study reports.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Engineering, Planning, or related field.
  • 0-5 years of relevant experience with transportation engineering and/or planning.
  • Analytical, organizational, interpersonal, and written communication skills.
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preference given to local candidates.
