Primary Responsibilities
In the role of Biologist 2, we'll count on you to:
- Perform routine wildlife surveys, habitat evaluations, requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
- Perform biological assessments, data interpretation, and analysis and report writing as needed for Endangered Species Act consultation and other state/local permitting in WA and OR
- Complete projects with clear, specified objectives and limited variables
- Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior scientists on larger projects
- Give direction to clerical and technical personnel as needed
- Work on assignments that require dealing with diverse working conditions while in the field as needed
- Perform other duties as needed
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Biology or closely related field
- Minimum 5 years related experience in wildlife/conservation biology, natural resource planning, and/or restoration ecology; Master’s degree may account for up to 2 years of experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office
- Highly motivated self-starter
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Willingness to work in inclement conditions and travel for up to two weeks at a time for field work. Travel out of state may be required
- Must be able to navigate rugged conditions on foot for extended periods of time (8-10 hours). Day and night surveys may be required.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficient technical writing skills and document preparation experience
- Demonstrated GIS experience, including preparing figures and spatial analysis
- An attitude and commitment to be an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
Preferred Qualifications
- Focused academic background with a B.S. or B.A. in biological studies, natural resources, wildlife management, wildlife biology, botany and plant ecology, or an equivalent subject
- Experience conducting biological surveys through a consulting firm, resource agency, or similar in the Pacific Northwest (Washington and Oregon)
- Knowledge of Pacific Northwest flora and/or fauna
- Demonstrated field experience
- Experience with special-status aquatic species and terrestrial wildlife, and reporting; resource agency aquatic resources and/or wildlife impact assessments and permitting is a plus
