Supervisor of Nuclear Medicine

Position Summary    

The Nuclear Medicine Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the day -to-day operations of the nuclear medicine department.  The nuclear medicine supervisor is responsible for ensuring the efficient and safe delivery of high-quality service to patients while also providing leadership and guidance to a team of nuclear medicine technologists. 

Education    
•Required:  Graduation from an accredited school of Nuclear Medicine Technology 
•Preferred: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related field of study.  
Required License and or Certification 
•Required:  Must be ARRT (N)  or CNMT certified. 
•Required:  Must obtain a license from the Maryland Board of Physicians Quality Assurance to practice as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist in the state of Maryland. 

Experience    
•Required:  Minimum 5  years as a Nuclear Medical Technologist.

•Preferred:  Three years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience including one year of work-lead or supervisory experience.  "

•Supervises as well as performs all nuclear medicine procedures to the highest quality.   
•Provides input back to staff regarding individual image quality. 
•Complies statistical and QA data as needed.
•Maintains exam protocols to assure exam quality with minimum exposure levels.
•Coordinates with personnel of other departments regarding patient and/or staff related problems. 
•Makes recommendations concerning the purchase, maintenance and/or repair of equipment.
•Responsible for the orientation and training of staff. 
•Interviews and recommends the hiring of new staff members. 
•Performs annual performance evaluations of staff. 
•Performs disciplinary action as outlined in the TidalHealth handbook. 

Work Schedule    •Day shift - Monday - Friday.  
     
.Performs diagnostic, therapeutic and quality control of Nuclear Medicine  procedures  
  •Operates radionuclide imaging devices (ex. gamma camera) to perform imaging procedures. 
  •Calculates, prepares and administers diagnostic and therapeutic radiopharmaceuticals as per established protocols.  
  •Scans patients and performs QC tests using approved standards. 

  Responsible for the oversight and compliance of the Radiation Safety Program  - ALARA for the nuclear medicine department 
•Serves as required member of the Radiation Safety Committee.
•Consults with the RSO and contracted physicists regarding amendments to the  radioactive materials license.                                                                                                                                             •Consults with the RSO and contracted  physicists  regarding misadministration's, reportable events and any radiation safety concerns.  
•Ensures compliance with DEP State of Maryland, NRC and JCAHO regulations.

  Demonstrates and practices strict adherence to radiation safety. 
•Practices and follows recommendations and the national council on radiation protection and the code of Maryland regulation (ALARA).
•Demonstrates the safe handling, proper storage and disposal of all radio pharmaceuticals.
•Questions and documents all female patients of child bearing age 12-50 if they are or could be pregnant prior to initiating any examination."

  Optimizes the imaging devices to ensure quality imaging. 
•Monitors and supervises NM studies to ensure the highest quality of images and patient care. 
•Reviews computer data for cardiac and general nuclear medicine with interpreting physicians (Radiologist & Cardiologist).
•Communicates, troubleshoots problems with radiologists.                                                                      •Works collaboratively with vendors and the bio medical department to improve the quality of images and ensure the safe operation of equipment.                                                                                 Maintains a safe environment for testing, ensuring preventative maintenance checks are performed as required and promptly reporting equipment problems to Bio-Med. 
 Assures efficient work flow within department.                           
•Organizes staff and work schedule each day by prioritizing studies.
•Communicates with nursing units and physician offices in appropriately placing add-or patients on the schedule.
•Properly prepares for each patient, e.g., appropriate paper work, previous study results.
•Assures efficient patient flow by communication with patient transporters and nursing staff.      
           
 Demonstrates leadership Skills.  Supervises Others in the provision of patient care                            
• Participates in the training and orientation of new employees.  Ensures and documents all technical staff have completed and demonstrated competencies to work with little to no supervision.                                                                                                                     
Facilitates monthly meetings and effectively communicates any operational or clinical changes with staff.                                                                                                                                                                         •Performs rounding with the staff on a routine basis.                                                                           Collaboratively works with the ED and inpatient floors to ensure timely care of patients and efficient TAT                                                                                                                                                    Works collaboratively with other leaders to engage staff and physicians to reach goals.                     Communicates and implements initiatives from Senior Management that are aligned with the organizations mission, vision and values .
