Responsibilities of the Respiratory Therapist
Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to the patient. (Includes treatments of newborn through geriatric age patients.)
Performs others duties as directed by Respiratory Care Manager.
Responsible for arranging for or providing emergency coverage when the need arises.
Takes an active role in in-service education of the technicians as well as the orientation of nursing personnel to Cardiopulmonary Services.
Assists in maintaining an appropriate inventory of all necessary therapeutic and blood gas equipment and supplies.
Takes an active role in striving for a good quality control and continuous quality improvement.
Maintains patient billing for Respiratory Care..
Requirements of the Respiratory Therapist
Graduate of accredited AMA-approved respiratory therapy program.
CRT or RRT credentials by the National Board of Respiratory Care with an Associate Degree preferred
Current MS licensure as respiratory care practitioner or temporary permit as respiratory practitioner.
Prior experience as a Respiratory Therapist
Current BCLS, ACLS, PALS. and NALS certification preferred.
Successful completion of job description competency skills testing.
