Job Summary
This role is titled Specimen Accessioner / Collection Representative is responsible for handling COVID-19 samples with the intent to expedite intake to the laboratory for testing. They will be responsible for electronically inputting all necessary data from the collected samples. The Specimen Accessioner / Collection Representative will be required to maintain records and documentation and may be asked to register patients using electronic or paper requisitions. They must maintain a safe and professional environment and promote a positive image to patients, employees, and the public in general.

Summary of Essential Job Functions
- Demonstrates customer service and compassion when interacting with patients and staff.
- Receives, sorts, and enters samples into the appropriate electronic systems with correct barcoded labels and patient information.
- Ensures all specimens are collected and processed accurately and on time.
- Responsible for completing necessary forms and requisitions accurately.
- Communicates via phone and e-mail to verify samples or discuss collection issues when necessary.
- Packages specimens for transport.
- Reads, understands, and complies with departmental policies, protocols, and procedures: (i.e., Procedure Manuals, Safety Manual, Compliance Manual, Automobile policies and procedures, Employee Handbook, Quality Assurance Manual).
- Maintains all appropriate Collection logs.
- Adhere to confidentiality expectations and HIPAA requirements.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- At least 1-year experience as a CNA or Medical Assistant, preferred.
- At least 1-year Customer Service experience preferred.
- Windows-based computer skills and skilled in clerical functions such as telephones, e-mails, pagers, running copy and fax machines.
- Demonstrated complex problem-solving and excellent interpersonal skills.
