What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dispatcher position at Hearne Police Department?
Works under general direction of the Communications Supervisor’s. This is a highly responsible and professional position that involves direct calls for non-emergency and emergency service purposes including Police, Fire, and after-hour calls for other city departments; non-emergency inquires. This job requires multi-tasking skills and the ability to make quick decisions in violent and/or highly emotional situations while maintaining a courteous, call and effective demeanor utilizing a Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. You will enter and retrieve information in the system for the public, officers, and other agencies. You will dispatch officers over the radio to calls for service, maintain an accurate radio log,, answer all radio traffic and update CAD system and officers with pertinent information. Employees must be available to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays. Must be able to pass background investigation, psychological, polygraph, full physical including hearing, vision and drug testing. REQUIREMENTS: High School Diploma or G.E.D. Associates degree or one year experience as a telecommunicator in Public Safety is preferred. Typing (35 wpm) and clerical skills. Ability to pass Critical Call Testing. Valid Class C Texas Driver's License. Ability to be certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety in TCIC/NCIC operations within 6 months of employment. Ability to be licensed as a basic Telecommunications Operator by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) within one year of employment. Open until filled. Hearne Police Department Application is required. We will train.
