As a Medical Assistant, you will assist in preparing patients for their health care visit, assisting the provider with delivering care, and updating the patient health records.
Essential Functions of the Role:
- Prepares patients for the health care visit by directing and/or accompanying them to the exam room; helping them to position themselves for the examination and/or treatment; arranging examining room instruments, supplies, and equipment.
- Verifies patient information and updates charts by interviewing patients; reviewing and/or recording medical history; taking vital signs; confirming purpose of visit or treatment.
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; taking electrocardiograms; placing heart monitors; disposing of contaminated supplies; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning prescriptions to pharmacies.
- Minor in office wound care and/or dressing changes in vascular clinics.
- Educates patients by providing medication and diet information and instructions, answering questions.
- Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results in appropriate EMR or record, access and obtain records from various hospital EMR.
- Maintains a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures, complying with legal regulations.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential and in compliance with HIPAA.
- Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards, if applicable.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations.
- Actively works towards positive interdepartmental care coordination to create the most effective patient experience possible.
The above functions may vary in emphasis by location. Below are special functions that are location specific.
Advanced Heart Group
- Perform EKG’s, apply and download Holter monitors.
- Copy and email medical records to the Insurance companies.
- Medical Assistants for PCP physicians will administer immunizations.
Advanced Cardio Specialists
- Option to gain training to perform lab draws, start IVs, perform TILT tables and regular stress treadmills, and Holter training.
Cardiovascular Health Clinic
- Perform EKG’s, apply and download Holter monitors.
- Copy and email medical records to the Insurance companies.
Colorado Springs Cardiology
- Some MAs will engage in specialty work in Cardiac Diagnostics. This role requires IV certification.
STL Heart and Vascular
- Assist Nuclear Technicians in the Stress Lab to perform procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
- Clinical healthcare experience required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, specifically Word/Excel/Teams
- Ability to travel to other offices as needed
- OKC only- Travel to offices may include travel to rural areas with provider team in company vehicle or plane
- OKC only- Valid driver’s license
- Ardmore, OK requires phlebotomy experience
Desired Qualifications:
- Clinical cardiology or vascular experience
- MA education
- BLS (Must obtain within 30 days of hire)
- Certified Medical Assistant
- Experience in an EMR, ADP Workforce Now
Physical Requirements
This position requires a full range of body motion. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, walk, and stand; talk or hear, both in person and by telephone; use hands repetitively to handle or operate standard office equipment; reach with hands and arms; and lift up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment
Work is performed in a typical medical clinic and/or business office environment. Work in a clinical setting has the potential for exposure to blood and bodily fluids, and infectious pathogens. Must be able to use protective equipment as required.
