Job Summary:
Ensure that plant sanitation rules are followed, customer micro sampling programs are followed, environmental monitoring programs are followed, and that documentation is maintained for these activities.

Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
- Performing regularly scheduled environmental swabs.
- Performing customer-required swabs and microbiological sampling.
- Preparing swabs for shipment and completing sample analysis request forms daily.
- Maintain environmental swab records
- Track inventories of swabbing / micro supplies and alert the Quality Manager when supplies are needed.
- Other tasks as required and assigned by the Sanitation Supervisor or Quality Manager.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area.
- Sustain plants 5-S efforts.
- Keep, all information pertaining to our operations (products, customers, production details, etc.) confidential.
Required Competencies & Knowledge :
Education Requirements
Required – High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent.
Experience Requirements
Preferred – Associate’s Degree or other continuing education.
- Preferred – 2 years of experience in Quality or another Technical department.

Skills, Knowledge, and Ability Requirements
- Must have demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
- Must have demonstrated proficiency with general computer file operations, scanning, email, etc.
- Must be able to maintain good interpersonal communications with co-workers, employees from other departments, and superiors.
- Must be able to comprehend the basics of microbiological testing as it relates to Food Safety.
- Must be able to communicate via phone and email with vendors and customers as needed.
Physical Requirements:
Body Positions - Sitting, Standing, Kneeling, Crouching
Body Movements - Walking, bending arms, wrists, and fingers; twisting/turning of head, shoulders, and torso.
Must have ability to lift 40 pounds occasionally and stand or sit for lengthy durations.
Other Requirements:
- Mathematics – Must be able to perform simple mathematic calculations and be able to work with fractions / ratios and percentages.
- Language - Must be able to communicate in English both verbally and in writing and interface with customers, vendors and employees. Must be able to read and comprehend English. Ability to speak, read, write, and comprehend Spanish and/or French is a plus.
- Must be able to perform routine tasks on a computer using Windows, Microsoft Office and other software packages as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Work will be done both in a climate-controlled office and in non-climate-controlled production facilities of the business.
Measures of Performance:
The Environmental Technician shall be considered to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have occurred:
Excellent attendance and punctuality are vital.
Micro testing samples and swabs are sent out correctly and on time.
Willingness to work as a team member and help out where needed to ensure maximum departmental efficiency.
Willingness to maintain a positive and productive relationship with co-workers, production, management and others with whom the position may have contact with.
