Assist member banks and subsidiaries in all areas of lending in accordance with established policies and procedures.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Work with lenders and credit analysts to complete credit write-ups that adequately disclose and discuss the credit risk associated with the transaction. Complete the write-up by writing a Credit Administration Comment that identifies to the reader that the risks have been properly disclosed, the structure is appropriate for the risks identified, any policy exceptions have been identified, and the assigned risk rating is appropriate.
  • Work with lenders at member banks to establish appropriate Action Plans to either improve or exit the credit in a reasonable period of time for sub-rated credits that have not been assigned to a Special Assets Officer.
  • Conduct a monthly meeting with assigned banks to discuss sub-rated credits, and the actions beingtaken by the bank’s lenders.
  • Work with senior management at assigned banks to assist in the management of the loan portfolio.Involvement may include: making sure lenders are being proactive in the completion of renewals of credits or completion of Lender Annual Reviews, identification of risk factors within the portfolio that may warrant special action or changes in risk grades on specific credits, stress testing and portfolio segmentation to identify potential risks that should be addressed.
  • Provide interpretation and communication of loan policies and procedures.
  • Communicate with member banks as appropriate to continue the development of a common credit culture.
  • Review procedures and update as necessary.
  • Provide and conduct training for member bank and departmental personnel.
  • At the request of member bank personnel, make joint calls on their customers to visit their establishments so as to determine the condition of the plant and equipment, to compare methods of operation with accepted practices within the industry, and to begin to determine the credit worthiness of the proposed transaction.
  • Make visits to assigned member banks at least semi-annually to build rapport with lending staff, and make calls or conduct training as requested by the bank.
  • Provide a high level of service to the assigned member banks by proactively gaining knowledge of thechanging market conditions within the assigned member bank locations.
  • Complete various assigned projects related to the credit administration function.
  • Represent Heartland within selected community, civic, business, and industry activities.
  • Periodically visit with bank management to review front end guidance in assisting with identification of desired targeted customer segments/industries.
  • Complete various Due Diligence projects related to mergers and acquisitions.
  • Completes annual E-Learning Plan and Bank Secrecy Act (BSA) training as assigned and keeps up-to-date knowledge of BSA as it relates to the job function.

Qualifications
  • Bachelors Accounting, Finance
  • 7-10 years of underwriting credit experience including commercial, agriculture, real estate and municipal
  • Direct lending and or portfolio management experience
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to effectively present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume
  • General knowledge and understanding of accounting principles in accordance with GAAP
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Internet software, Internetresearch, Spreadsheet software, Microsoft Suite and Word Processing software
