SUMMARY
Leads direct and coordinate activities of the production cell or department(s) in processing materials or manufacturing products in industrial organization.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (may include but not limited to)
- Review production orders or schedule to ascertain product data such as types, quantities and specifications of products and scheduled delivery dates in order to plan department operations
- Participate in and/or directs production operations
- Coordinate manufacturing activities to ensure production and quality of products meet specifications
- Review production and operating reports and resolve operational, manufacturing and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays
- Work with Manufacturing Manager to develop manpower and/or machine requirements to meet work schedules
- Participate in weekly Lead meetings
- Conduct weekly "toolbox" meetings with subordinates
- Support and manage improvement initiatives in the manufacturing areas to include LEAN manufacturing initiatives, 5-S and quality improvement programs
- Inspect machines and equipment to ensure specific operational performance and optimum utilization
- Develop or revise standard operational and working practices and observe workers to ensure compliance with standards
- Make recommendations to management on efficiency improvements related to the manufacturing process
- Compile, store and retrieve production data
- Safely operate forklift to move parts when necessary
- Project a positive company image by interacting with fellow employees, customers and management in a cooperative, supportive and courteous manner; displays a professional attitude; complies with company dress code
- Communicate with individuals at all levels within the organization
- Document assigned tasks as required
- Perform work according to production schedule and/or supervisor's directives

MINIMUM EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
Experience/Knowledge

- Knowledge of manufacturing processes and skills within the heavy metal assembly industry
- Experience safely operating a forklift
Education
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

- Ability to accurately read and interpret a tape measure, engineering drawings and bills of material (BOMs)
- Ability to apply concepts such as basic math skills, fractions, micrometers, percentages, ratios, proportions to practical situations, and convert decimals into inches

Levels of the lead Position
Levels will be determined based on education, experience and equivalents.
Lead I
This is an entry-level leadership position. Minimum four (4) years’ experience in various jobs within a heavy equipment production line.
Lead II
This is the intermediate-level leadership position. The employee works in a developing capacity with increased responsibility for performing a range jobs within a heavy equipment production line. Typically will receive limited supervision. Minimum six (6) years’ experience in heavy equipment production line welding.
Lead III
This is the senior experienced level leadership position. The employee performs a full range of production line duties including but not limited to assembly, fitting, joining, fabricating, machining, repairing, troubleshooting problems, and uses considerable independent judgment to interpret and apply work guidelines with considerable latitude to specific situations. May independently make decisions in the absence of a Production Supervisor. Will have responsibility to mentor and train production positions and lower-level Leads. Minimum ten (10) years’ experience in heavy equipment production line welding.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Eighteen (18) years of age or older

- Valid driver's license and ability to safely operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to provide transportation to and from either Chattanooga location when required
- Ability to drive between plant locations and other local destinations when required
- Required to carry $100,000/$300,000 liability insurance coverage on any personal vehicle used for company business. Mileage reimbursed through expense reports submitted to the Company's accounting department.
