What are the responsibilities and job description for the CAD Drafter position at HEB?
Expected Pay Range: $50,000 - $60,000
The CAD Drafter will support both Field Operations and Logistics. Field Operations support is the primary duty, designing site maps as requested by the Program and Project Managers, Mobilization Lead, or Operations Manager. Logistics support is the secondary duty, designing blueprints and schematics of equipment either for internal or external manufacturing.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Prepare drawings for clients/job sites.
- Job site drawings may use several references, SOW, client knowledge, pricing templates, notes from the PM or previous jobs, etc.
- Prepare dimensional drawings, installation drawings, and more complex drawings.
- Revise and update existing drawings, reflecting design changes, in collaboration to ensure consistent documentation of the project.
- Review blueprints, plans, specifications, and other documentation, if requested by Logistics or Project Managers.
- Revise and update drawings to ensure consistent documentation of the projects.
- Participate (and sometimes lead) in coordination meetings to discuss and establish budget, constructability, and code requirements.
- Serve as an information source on planning and design of equipment installations.
- Maintain notes, design calculations and other documentation (like drawings, bill of materials, list of design parameters, and performance guarantees) for future reference.
- Establish filing guidelines for drawings to maintain up-to-date drawings
- Other duties as required relating to CAD database maintenance, PDM, etc.
- Aid in the selection of materials for products.

Skills and Specifications
- Extensive experience with SolidWorks/Vectorworks and other CAD software
- Basic understanding of all facets of construction blueprints (architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, plumbing, electrical and special systems)
- Understanding of drafting conventions and standards
- Fluency in reading 2D and plans, electronically and hard copy; willingness to learn 3D
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work on a team
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Creativity and artistic ability
- Time management skills, including the ability to meet project deadlines
- Ability to prioritize project tasks and lead a team through successful completion on-time and within budget
Supervisory Responsibility
This position is not a supervisory role
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment and field environments. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as laptop computers, smart phones, tablets, photocopiers, filing cabinets and other presentation materials. There is an expectation of clear communication in English both written and orally.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear, stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to twist, turn, bend, lift, kneel, climb, and stand. Lifting of up to 25 lbs may occur.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Typical hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00am-5pm daily eastern standard time, as needed. Ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends is required based on contract needs.
Travel
Travel is extensive for this position. Must be able to travel on short notice and for extended periods of time.
Required Education and Experience
- High school diploma (or equivalent) required; Bachelor’s degree desired
- 3 years’ relevant experience, to include:
- Experience with SolidWorks CAD software
- Experience with commercial or industrial manufacturing
- CAD Certification desired
Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
- Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, and background check upon accepting a conditional offer of employment.
- Must possess a valid driver's license. Have/maintain a clean driving record.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain a Transportation Worker’s Identification Credential (TWIC)
