What are the responsibilities and job description for the Carpenter position at HEB?
Expected Pay Range: $18-24/hr.
The Carpenter is responsible for designing, building, installing, and repairing containerized units as well as troubleshooting and repairing malfunctions. Must be experienced in framing and finishing systems and will able to produce and maintain well-functioning containerized units to minimize the probability of accidents and maximize usability of the containers at all times.
Duties and Responsibilities/Essential Functions
- Prepare the layout of the project and work with blueprints or instructions from managers
- Estimate height, width, length and other proportions
- Select material, such as but not limited to wood, plastic, fiberglass, hardware and adhesives
- Join materials with nails, screws, staples and utilize chisels, lanes, saws, drills and other hand tools
- Use levels, rules, plumb bobs, framing squares and surveying equipment to ensure all is level and secure
- Install and or replace windows, tiles, fixtures and doors
- Perform effective troubleshooting to identify hazards or malfunctions and repair or substitute damaged units

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no present requirement for supervisory responsibilities.
Work Environment
This job operates in a workshop environment. We operate 24/7/365, inside and outside, in all weather conditions. This role routinely uses standard carpentry equipment and is required to use and wear standard PPE, which will be provided by the company. There is an expectation of clear communication in English both written and orally.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Ability to twist, turn, bend, lift, kneel, climb and stand. Lifting of up to 75 lbs may occur.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position based in our Jackson, MS location. Standard days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Ability to work flexible hours including nights, holidays, and weekends will be required based on contract needs.

Required Education and Experience
- High School graduate or equivalent required.
- 3 years experience as a commercial construction carpenter (certifications obtained, if any)
Work Authorization/Security Clearance (if applicable)
Must be able to travel within the Continental United States (CONUS)
- Must pass a drug test, motor vehicle record check, and a background check after accepting a conditional offer of employment
- Must possess a valid driver's license. Have/maintain a clean driving record.
