About HELP USA

At HELP USA, we work to ensure that everyone has a place to call home. We’re one of the nation’s largest homeless services providers and low-income housing developers serving at-risk populations including families, individuals, veterans, survivors of domestic violence, people with physical and mental health challenges and disabilities, and seniors. With an annual operating budget approaching $150 million and 1400 employees working in nearly 60 programs, we have helped over 500,000 people facing homelessness and poverty to build better lives. We hope that you will consider joining our team in the fight against homelessness.

Position Overview

New Beginnings is an adapted Critical Time Intervention (CTI) nine-month program that provides trauma-informed care to young heads of households ages 18 to 24 who have been homeless or at risk of imminent homelessness.  Clients transitioning out of HELP’s 120-day Homebase homelessness prevention program are helped through New Beginnings to fully reintegrate into their community and gain access to essential resources to increase their chances of long-term housing stability.

As a Clinical Social Worker with New Beginnings, you’ll use the CTI model and focus on variables that contribute to residential instability: employment, educational attainment, mental health services, health care, and daycare.

Specific responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting intake and assessment of new program participants and maintaining a high-volume caseload.

  • Creating and following a service plan for each household that prepares the family for graduation per the CTI model.

  • Providing clients with appropriate community service referrals to maintain housing stability and achieve self-sufficiency through employment vocational training, and continuing education.

  • Developing individualized linkages with appropriate community resources and beginning to set in motion plans for long-term goals such as employment, education, childcare, health care services, etc. that will help clients maintain housing stability and achieve self-sufficiency.

  • Serving as liaison with social services agencies.

  • Serving as liaison with property management companies, landlords, and brokers to negotiate affordable rental amounts, repairs, etc.

  • Mediating on behalf of clients while helping them develop the ability to advocate for themselves.

  • Maintaining regular bi-monthly contact with clients through regular telephone calls and home visits.

  • Determining residential stability by comparing risk assessment at the beginning and exit of each case.

Requirements

  • Masters in Social Work or related field, with LMSW a plus.

  • Flexibility, creativity, and comfort working primarily in the community.

  • Deep understanding of the foundational concepts of CTI and ability to implement its practice guidelines in the clinical and concrete work with the client base.

  • Understanding of the work of the Homebase team including housing court procedures, financial assistance process, etc.

  • Ability to take the initiative, be dependable and resourceful, and pay keen attention to detail

  • Strong verbal, written, and negotiation skills.

  • Computer literacy, particularly with Microsoft Office applications.

  • Bilingual capability (Spanish/English) a plus.

  • Valid US Driver’s license a plus.
