What You’ll Do
As a Senior Accountant with HELP USA, a $150 million not-for-profit organization, you’ll provide key financial support for our Transitional Housing, residential and non-residential Social Service programs. You’ll report to an Accounting Manager (who reports to the Controller Transitional Housing) and work closely with funders, auditors and HELP USA Departments and Programs on all accounting matters.
Your responsibilities will include:
Preparation, maintenance, review and submission of all billing and reimbursement records relating to the subject funding agencies.
Analyzing the general ledger monthly for each grant and preparing journal entries, calculating accruals and adjustments, and maintaining detailed workpapers as well as investigating and correcting noted errors and inconsistencies.
Creating internal and external financial reports required by management and funding agencies.
Submitting reimbursement billing requests to funding agencies.
Creating year-end audit package work papers for submission to auditors.
Reviewing contract agreements to ensure compliance with and proper recording of all financial requirements.
Conducting monthly budget vs. actual analyses and communicating results across all functions/departments.
Preparing monthly reconciliations of all cash accounts & grant receivables and periodic balance sheet analysis.
Assisting with various projects and tasks within finance as needed.
You’re a good fit for this role if you have:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting.
At least 5 years accounting experience in the non-profit sector or related activities.
Strong Excel skills.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to quickly understand and explain account variances from budgeted amounts.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills and detail orientation.
Ability to work independently with minimal daily supervision.
It would be great (but not required) if you have:
Knowledge of not-for-profit or governmental accounting and NYC Passport & Accelerator systems.
Experience with Lawson accounting software and real estate accounting software, ideally Lawson.
Salary : $68,000
