SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Manager, COVID Vaccine Data Reporting and Analytics, this position will provide initial guidance, training, and support for the Vaccine Data Team within the California Department of Public Health’s Immunization Branch and Vaccine Task Force response. The Vaccine Data Team Lead will organize and oversee the daily efforts of the Vaccine Data Team, as well as consult with various members of Immunization Branch and Vaccine Task Force leadership on the identification and extraction of key metrics related to vaccination efforts. This position will play a primary role in coordinating responses to ad hoc data and analysis requests. As needed, this position may also support other COVID-19 projects.
Must be able to occasionally work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Lead and coordinate the work efforts of data scientists and analysts on the Vaccine Data Team to deliver routine and ad hoc reports
- Develop standard processes and protocols for analysis and investigation of vaccine data quality issues
- Develop manuals and written documentation to preserve knowledge and best practices in vaccine data analysis and reports as conducted by the team
- Provide technical and analytic consultation and expertise to the COVID vaccine response
- Perform ad hoc analyses and data reporting as requested by Immunization Branch and Vaccine Task Force leadership
- Document and communicate identified issues succinctly and in a timely fashion, escalating issues affecting accurate reporting of COVID vaccine efforts
- Produce data visualizations and written and oral reports.
- Perform other duties as directed by the Manager, COVID Vaccine Data Reporting and Analytics
JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to perform data analysis, data cleaning, and data quality assessment with attention to detail.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with public health, technical, and healthcare professionals and internal partners.
- Knowledge and application of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) requirements and protection of health information.
- High level analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Completes assignments in a timely and efficient manner.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and work independently.
- Demonstrate reliability and integrity.
- Fluency in spoken English.
Education/Experience
- Candidacy for or completed Master’s degree, preferred
- Knowledge and use of one or more languages intended for data manipulation and analysis, required. Acceptable languages may include: SAS, R, and/or SQL
- Advanced knowledge of Excel (such as lookup functions, VBA, pivot tables)
- Experience with laboratory, vaccine, or healthcare data
- Experience in coordinating complex projects.
- Experience with data visualization software such as Tableau or R, preferred.
