***EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND CERTIFICATIONS***

  • High school diploma required; dialysis biomedical technician experience preferred
  • Experience in biomedical equipment and machinery
  • Associate degree in Biomedical Technology or related field desired
  • Fresenius Medical Care 2008 Series Level I Technical Certification is plus
  • Qualifications in water treatment/ maintenance certification or related field is a plus
  • Valid driver’s license

PURPOSE AND SCOPE: 

The Biomedical Technician is responsible for maintaining the working order of all dialysis machines and equipment.  They shall independently perform critical tasks in assessing the overall conditions of the company’s machines in order to ensure that they are functioning properly for the use of the nursing staff.  The maintenance being provided is under the direction and in accordance with HTI Policies, Procedures and Guidelines, AAMI, and CMS regulations.   

A Biomedical Technician is expected to support Hema-Tec, Inc.’s vision, values, mission, and customer service philosophy.  It is expected that the individual(s) in this position will follow Hema-Tec, Inc.’s and all contracted hospitals’ policies and procedures in order to provide the highest quality of service.   

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: 

General:

  • Provides machine maintenance in compliance with company and contracted hospital standards, policies and procedures, as well as regulations set forth by the company, state, and federal agencies.  
  • Responsible for reporting all new or unusual incidents, information, complaints, or problems to their direct supervisor. 
  • Works effectively with the HTI nursing staff and with the staff of contracted hospitals.  
  • Has the ability to take call and respond quickly in emergency situations.  
  • Eligible candidates may receive company vehicle to execute on job duties

Maintenance/Technical:

  • Promotes and assists in maintaining a safe and clean working environment in order to maintain environmental integrity and aesthetics. 
  • Prepares, organizes, and efficiently utilizes supplies and equipment to prevent waste. 
  • Operates all company and/or contracted hospital equipment appropriately and safely, provides trouble-shooting when necessary, and follows contracted hospital emergency procedures when required.  
  • Understands, conducts and documents appropriately dialysis/apheresis machine safety tests/alarm tests, equipment calibration, dialysate testing, machine safety tests, functional testing, and internal and external disinfection on all water machines, and complies with documentation/notification standards per company policies.  
  • Disinfects Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Dialysis machines per manufacturer’s recommendations  
  • Performs preventative maintenance on all RO and Dialysis machines per manufacturer’s recommendations
  • Repairs machines as necessary and in a timely manner  
  • Is responsible for taking water samples from machines and hospitals in order to perform various tests (AAMIs, LALs, and cultures) and test for water quality and bacteria per AAMI standards.  

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Described below are the physical demands and work environment characteristics that are representative of those an employee typically encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 

  • Day to day work may include desk work, computer work and interaction with facility/hospital staff and physicians.  
  • Requires travel between assigned hospitals and various locations within the community during various weather/ road conditions while transporting medical equipment.
  • The work environment is characteristic of a health care facility with air temperature control and moderate noise levels. 
  • There is potential exposure to potentially infectious material and contagious diseases/material.   
  • The position may require prolonged periods of standing, the ability to bend (provisions to reduce bending, i.e. stool can be made available), to move machines and equipment > 200 lbs., and may lift chemical and water solutions of up to 30 lbs up as high as 5 feet. There is a two-person assist program and “material assist” devices for the heavier items.
