JOB TITLE: IT Director

WORK LOCATION: LaBelle, Florida
PURPOSE OF JOB: This position is responsible for leadership, vision, budget, strategy and overall direction of the technology and GIS needs of Hendry County government Constitutional Offices, designing solutions to fit identified needs, and implementing effective and cost-effective solutions by directing subordinate staff while serving in secondary capacity for Distributed Services (Infrastructure) and tertiary for Client Services (break fix). The incumbent is also responsible for monitoring on-going IT systems and applications and ensuring that the needs of end users are met. The incumbent is responsible for system stability and security and is responsible for ensuring that critical data is properly backed-up and stored.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Meets with managers and directors to determine IT needs within Hendry County. Evaluates the effectiveness of present systems, and where these are inadequate, identifies and designs systems to meet departmental needs. Recommends procedural and workflow changes. Conducts research into IT solutions and presents recommendations to senior management. Evaluate return on investment (ROI) for technology expenditures and presents information to management.
Develops long-term strategies, goals and standards for technology infrastructure. Designs redundancies, back-up systems and security systems for all Hendry County IT systems. Anticipates and develops solutions for future technology needs with regards to client network and systems environment.
Supervises employees responsible for day to day system management and end-user support. Plans, organizes, directs, and evaluates the work of subordinates. Performs various supervisory administrative duties.
Authorizes the purchase of hardware and software. Prepares bid documents and RFPs for goods and services. Manages contracts for services.
Prepares IT Department budget to reflect County needs. Working with subordinate staff, purchases or contracts for hardware and software products to fill identified departmental needs. Plans system modifications and directs staff in the implementation of new or upgraded systems. Evaluates implemented systems and designs and implements system modifications as needed.
Performs hands-on administration of Network, Telecom, Server and Virtualization technologies including activities such as proactive maintenance, patching, monitoring design, backups and troubleshooting as needed.
Directs the post mortem process for problems as appropriate (MTTR/MTBF).
Directs the testing and evaluation of new technologies to ensure compatibility and functionality.
Develops policies and procedures for IT Department staff and end-users.
Ensures system and integrity and security. Reports data breaches per Florida Statutes.
Stays current on industry trends and new technologies and recommend future initiatives.
Monitors and resolves system performance issues; identifies and corrects application software problems.
Lead consolidated GIS initiatives and efforts.
Lead E911 technical initiatives and efforts
Lead VHF and 800mhz radio and vertical tower asset initiatives and efforts
Lead IT Security initiatives and efforts
Will be required to report to work during declared disasters.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Ten years of IT experience at least 3 of which were spent designing and implementing Server/Client virtualization technologies and 5 leading and building high performance teams with overall responsibility of technology organization.
A bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Engineering or equivalent. Professional IT experience may substitute for a degree on a year for year basis.
· Class E Florida Drivers License and have an acceptable driving record.
· Satisfactory criminal background and employer reference checks.
HOURS OF WORK:
8:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. Additional hours may be required. This is an overtime exempt position.
PAY RANGE: Varies based on experience.
