General Statement of Duties

Performs assigned duties proficiently for Circulation Services at an assigned location; does related work as required.

Essential Duties

Henrico County Public Library seeks a Public Services Specialist I to support Circulation Services. This posting may also be used to fill multiple Public Services Specialist I positions in Circulation Services at locations throughout the library system.

Essential Duties for the Public Services Specialist I level in Circulation:

• Responding accurately to patrons' needs and inquiries.
• Demonstrates sound working knowledge of the principles and practices of library science.
• Demonstrates sound working knowledge of the resources and best practices for Circulation Services in libraries
• Demonstrates sound working knowledge of Library policies and procedures.
• Provides front line customer service at the circulation desk and drive-up window as well as by phone and email.
• Proficiently performs circulation duties as assigned to include charge, discharge, shelve, process holds, collect fines, register patrons, sort bin materials, answer phones, reconcile patron accounts and other duties as assigned to facilitate flow of library materials in assigned library.
• Performs other duties as assigned such as processing periodicals, preparing deposits, reconciling and assisting patrons with barred accounts, troubleshooting equipment, etc.
• Maintains accurate, reconciled patron records.
• Provides basic troubleshooting and replacement of RFID tags as needed; assists customers at the library window; accurately shelves and processes materials.
• Work is performed as assigned at locations Countywide with minimal direction from the supervisor and senior staff.

Minimum Qualifications

High School diploma/GED, with relevant college coursework or degree preferred and one (1) year of relevant customer service experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

May require a valid driver's license to perform assigned duties at various locations.
This position is part of a Career Development Series and does allow for advancement opportunities within the position.
This is a 40 hour/week position. Night and weekend work is required, including Sunday hours on rotation.
The expected hiring range will be at the lower end of the listed pay scale.
