What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accountant position at Henry County Water Authority?
Under general supervision of the Finance Manager, performs and coordinates general ledger accounting, budget management, project accounting, fixed asset accounting, financial accounting, and debt financing functions. Responsible for a variety of internal/external reporting, reconciliation, analysis, and transactional tasks. Maintains all official accounting records in conformance with GASB.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Compiles and analyzes financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts. Investigates and resolves reconciling items. Reconciles general ledger account balances.
- Assists with year-end audits and preparation of Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports.
- Sets up and monitors progress of projects. Creates projects in GP Dynamics. Reviews totals and reconciles total to general ledger.
- Maintains CIP review for accuracy; provides reports to management.
- Closes out projects upon completion.
- Reconciles CIP on a monthly basis.
- Records fixed asset acquisitions and dispositions in GP Dynamics.
- Reconciles the balance in fixed asset subsidiary ledger to the summary level accounts in the general ledger.
- Runs depreciation process for all fixed assets.
- Investigates the potential obsolescence of fixed assets.
- Maintains list of new machine and equipment assets for property and liability insurance purposes.
- Records bank service fees and bank transfers.
- Reconciles bank accounts in a timely manner.
- Ensures compliance with internal controls and policies and procedures.
- Reviews Trial Balance on a monthly basis.
- Records monthly Debt Service payments.
- Maintains, records, and reconciles all debt accounts.
- Maintains debt schedules and provides to auditors.
- Must be technically proficient in accounting software.
- Required to maintain a high level of confidentiality.
- Required to support the Finance Manager and perform various duties in their absence.
Education and/or Experience: Bachelor's degree from a four-year college or university in Accounting or related field; or three to five years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Proficiency using Microsoft Excel and GP Dynamics is a plus.
