The Business Strategy Analyst works under the direction of the Director of Corporate Strategy to develop and implement strategic and operational plans in support of HJF’s vision, mission, and organization-wide strategy. This position supports the short- and long-term vision and plan of HJF, including a strong understanding and analysis of operational processes and industry best practices to identify opportunities, risks, and provide recommendations; assisting and supporting business units with annual strategic and operational plans; writing and presenting on a range of strategic issues. This role supports fostering innovative solutions while supporting the HJF executive team in initiatives to improve operational excellence. This position has broad exposure to the top leadership of HJF and how the C-suite makes decisions to impact military medicine and global health.
Responsibilities:
- Performs analysis to support strategic visioning by assessing the organization’s current capabilities and potential opportunities. Analyzes and supports the development of metrics to track progress or improvement in strategic priorities and/or functional areas.
- Tracks the performance of various HJF processes to identify risks early and assess the potential impacts.
- Builds leadership dashboards to track KPMs and produce actionable insights via root cause analysis of relevant data sets.
- Helps develop and ensure regular business unit status communications for monthly, quarterly, and annual business reviews.
- Imparts concise summaries of business operations to the leadership team and is effective at answering follow-up questions.
- Guides and mentor’s unit managers on the usage of data analytics methods and tools to create business insights.
- Supports development or acquisition of tools to improve operational excellence.
- Supports working groups with research and analyses required for decision-making. Works on problems of diverse scope using appropriate operational evaluation tools.
- Supports the HJF Corporate Strategy team in developing plans (strategic and operational) that target key strategic priorities.
- Supports the Director of Corporate Strategy in the launch and oversight of high priority projects that require cross-functional resourcing.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role, action item tracking from Key Leadership Engagements, project management, consulting, and analytical support.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong analysis skills including knowledge of data analytics concepts, methods, and tools.
- Advanced Excel skills (including array functionality, pivot tables, and data visualization).
- Ability to interpret and analyze information, draw valid conclusions, and project consequences of decisions and recommendations.
- Must be highly organized and have a proven ability to think strategically, analyze, and evaluate complex and ambiguous issues and situations. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Dedication to delivering quality deliverables and ensuring timely completion of projects.
- Ability to formulate recommendations and prepares reports and presentations.
- Strong collaborative style conducive to efficient teamwork with exceptional empathy – the ability to work with people with broad differences in personalities and skills.
- Background in operational or financial analysis, planning, reporting and/or strategy.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience at a leading consulting, banking, audit, or large organization strategy / operational / financial analytics function is preferred.
- Knowledge of business intelligence practices including data mapping, extraction, validation, cleansing, transformation, and augmentation.
- Familiarity with business intelligence software (ex. Power BI), including data source connections, query, pivot, visualization, and publishing.
- Ability to develop and provide management with the necessary tools, reports, and analysis to make business decisions.
Minimum Education: Bachelor’s degree required, ideally in a quantitative discipline such as Engineering, Computer Science, Science, Math, Economics, Finance, or Business; Master’s and/or MBA is preferred.
Minimum Experience/ Training Requirements:
- Level I: Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience required.
- Level II: Minimum of 6-8 years of relevant professional experience required.
Work Environment: Set in an office work environment. May include some travel to HJF sites, both domestic, international, or potentially austere locations.
