The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine. We serve military, medical, academic and government clients by administering, managing and supporting preeminent scientific programs that benefit members of the armed forces and civilians alike. Since its founding in 1983, HJF has served as a vital link between the military medical community and its federal and private partners. HJF's support and administrative capabilities allow military medical researchers and clinicians to maintain their scientific focus and accomplish their research goals.
HJF is seeking a Nurse Practitioner II that helps with all aspects of patient care, including diagnosis, treatments and consultations. May work in inpatient, outpatient and research situations and performs independently or as part of a treatment team. Educates patients about preventative care and prescribed treatments. Conduct physical exams, orders tests and medications, and serves as a patient's primary healthcare provider. This position is part-time at 21 hours per week during the standard business day.
This position will be in support of the Graduate School of Nursing at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, MD. The research will be in collaboration with Walter Reed National Military Medical Center within the cardiovascular unit.
Note: This site requires that the incumbent has lived in the US for three out of the past five years.

Responsibilities:
  • Provides support in study coordination and implementation, data and study management. Oversees the implementation, tracking, data abstraction and collection, and coordination of data reporting.
  • Maintains a current computerized database in compliance with regulatory and quality control standards. Performs data analysis and interpretation with statistical consultation.
  • Manages research support activities in order to assure study integrity and accurate data collection. Supports biomedical research through detailed observations, measurements, and data collection related to pertinent assessments as defined by the study specifications.
  • Coordinates and facilitates the collection and dissemination of research specimens. Coordinates and schedules required research tests and research study visits.
  • Administers research interventions accurately and precisely, collects data according to study specifications and evaluates patient's response to therapy.
  • Coordinates research and clinical activities to meet research needs, complete study requirements and manage linkage with referring and primary care providers.
  • Assists in writing and editing results for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of procedures and techniques necessary for performing clinical responsibilities related to research protocols.
  • Knowledge of the causes of pain and modalities of pain control.
  • Ability to take initiative and develop proposals/protocols.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • The ability to maintain accurate and complete files.

Physical Capabilities:
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods
  • Ability to pull, and lift heavy objects

Qualifications:
Work Environment:
  • This position will take place primarily in a hospital or clinic setting.

Education and Experience:
  • Master's Degree in Nursing
  • 6-8 years of experience

Licenses and Certifications:
  • Nurse Practitioner License
