Position Description

The design manager is responsible for the successful completion of the design of a project.  This position requires the ability for an individual to bridge the gap between design and construction.  Design managers will collaborate on projects with their colleagues, delegate tasks and check for quality and consistency. 

 

Position Qualifications:

  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in business administration and marketing.
  • Minimum of 15-20 years of sales and development experience in the local market.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks when faced with multiple deadlines.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Experience in Database Applications (Microsoft Dynamics CRM).
  • Proven track record in building sales of construction products.
  • Established connections in the local commercial construction market as a result of previous sales experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A 4-year degree in civil or structural engineering, architecture, or construction management.
  • Minimum of 5-10 years’ experience on large commercial construction projects.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Computer software - Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Excel-based templates, Primavera and AutoDesk Suite.
  • Experience estimating large, complex projects preferred.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Subcontractor management.
  • Implementation of a constructability log.
  • Manage a Third Party/Peer Review process.
  • Design to budget.
  • Customer / Owner relations.
  • Submittal reviews.
  • Support the bid package process.
  • Risk management.
  • Collaborating with team members.
  • Conduct presentations.
  • Cost reporting.
  • Personnel evaluation and development.

Salaried employees are also eligible for a company cell phone or cell phone allowance in accordance with company policy. Further, salaried employees also receive either a vehicle or vehicle allowance in accordance with Hensel Phelps’ policies.
