The Heritage of the Americas Museum, a private museum located on the campus of Cuyamaca College in El Cajon Ca. seeks applicants for the position of Museum Director.

SUMMARY OF POSITION

The ideal candidate for the Director position will have a history of working in a museum or other 501(c)3 organizations, or a related degree in museum management. This person will have excellent communication skills, be willing to work with all age groups (elementary school children to senior citizens), be willing to interact with other local clubs and organizations to advance the exposure to the Museum, be willing to partner with the College to develop new educational and volunteer possibilities, and understand that fund raising is a significant part of this position. A background in education is a plus. This is not a remote position.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of running a 501(c)3 museum including development of education and public programming, managing staff and coordination of volunteers and docents including job training for the staff and volunteers, good communication skills with the staff and public. Manage 3 paid staff members and 20 to 30 volunteers and docents.
  • Work in conjunction with the Board to develop and carry out the strategic direction and establish initiatives to fulfill the mission of the Museum.
  • Serve as spokesperson and chief advocate for the museum. Continue to manage existing and new outreach programs in order to increase the Museums exposure to the public. Maintain and expand the Museum's relationship with Cuyamaca College to maximize the synergy between the Museum and the College.
  • Work in grant writing including expanding future grant requests to other private foundations as well as developing a program for local businesses to become sponsors of the Museum.
  • Manage and organize fundraising events.
  • Communicate and coordinate with teachers and schools regarding field trips. Continue to promote fundraising for the "Yellow Bus Grant" program. Research and develop new educational programs such as self-guided tours, and offering volunteer or docent opportunities for students at the College.
  • Improve the outreach program to local clubs and organizations with the intent to increase exposure of the museum and to identify potential sponsors.
  • Become familiar with the Museum's collection of artifacts and art, learn about past cultures on display, have a working knowledge of artists represented in the collection, and oversee the care and preservation of the collection.
  • Develop marketing content via Adobe Creative Cloud (lllustrator, Photoshop, lnDesign), manage and use various marketing channels (Square, Microsoft, etc) for membership, audience, and POS management.
