The Hennepin Healthcare Research Institute has a current opening for a part-time Laboratory Technician to support the research of Mark LeSage, PhD being conducted at HHS' Hennepin County Medical Center. Candidates who can work holidays and every weekend at 4 hours per day are strongly encouraged to apply.
This is a fully onsite position located in downtown Minneapolis, MN.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Participates in NIH-funded preclinical animal studies of new therapies for nicotine and opioid addiction. Responsibilities include animal (rodent) handling, data collection & analysis for behavioral studies; including drug self-administration and brain self-stimulation. Familiarity with conducting behavioral and/or pharmacological research in rodents and using related computer software (e.g. Med-PC) is highly desirable.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs routine laboratory tasks
- Effectively operates and maintains routine laboratory equipment such as operant conditioning chambers, infusion pumps, centrifuges, etc.
- Operates computer and relevant software to record results, calculate data, and construct simple graphs and charts.
- Includes handling small animals (rodents), animal tissues and/or routine lab chemicals.
- Willingly assists departmental research personnel with research projects.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS:
Education/Experience:
Any equivalent combination of education and experience that provides the required knowledge and skills is qualifying. Typical qualifications would be a high school diploma or GED with some science courses. Upper level undergraduates or graduate students in psychology, neuroscience or a related program with relevant lab experience preferred.

Requires interaction with a diverse population. Ability to read, write, and comprehend laboratory procedures, work independently, complete tasks in a timely manner with lack of mistakes, and adhere to institutional safety protocols. Demonstrate high standards of attendance, punctuality, maintains confidentiality, and manages time effectively. Small rodent handling experience preferred.
