Description
Journeyman Tool and Die Maker
JOB PURPOSE: Perform duties to build repair and maintain tooling so that it performs to the required safety, quality and production standards, Make detail and fixtures as required.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work from Complicated blue prints, work orders, sketches or instructions.
- Disassemble, clean and reassemble dies, jigs, fixtures, etc.
- Disassemble trouble shoot Stamping Die quality issues,
- Ability to make complicated details and fixture from examples.
- Ability to make judgmental calls on complicated tool repairs.
- Acquire any additional skill to set up and operate tool room equipment such as a lathe, mill, surface grinder, drill press, etc., used to perform the required work.
- Follow all safety rules and keep work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
- Covers for vacations or absenteeism of operator on different shifts.
- Uses hand tools, crane, grinders, calipers and gages.
- May use power industrial trucks, and hand pallet jack.
- Occasionally interacts with manufacturing on potential quality problems.
- PM Service of Tool room equipment.
Qualifications
SPECIALIZED TRAINING, SKILLS, ABILITIES, EXPERIENCE:
- Read blue prints and work orders.
- Correctly use required measuring equipment such as a caliper. Micrometer, torque gage, etc.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Lift dies with assistance of an overhead crane.
- Factory environment with noise from manufacturing environment. Exposure to moving equipment parts, electrical shock, and also exposed to possible burns from hot die castings.
- Possible serious injury due to carelessness around equipment (Lathe, Mill, Surface Grinder, Drill Press, etc.)
- Occasionally lift, carry, or move objects weighing more than 50 pounds.
- Regularly lift, carry or move objects weighing more than 25 pounds.
