JOB DESCRIPTION

BILLING COORDINATOR

 

JOB SUMMARY:

Performs third party billing, collections, and related work. Reports to the Chief Financial Officer.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

1. Data entry of daily charges.

2. Manages patient’s accounts to ensure that appropriate payer sources are correctly billed in a timely manner.

3. Assists with Hospital Based Presumptive Eligibility.

4. Assists with Medicaid applications.

5. Monitors accounts receivable balances to determine if payment has been made and follows up on outstanding account balances.

6. Conducts an on-going account audits for the purpose of determining the efficiency and accuracy of hospital billing operations.

7. Assists as required with patient admissions for the hospital.

8. Prepares on-going billings through the hospital’s automated billing system or through the preparation of spreadsheets.

9. Provides CFO with documentation for possible write-offs.

10. Monitors authorizations of services and works with utilization review coordinator to obtain new and concurrent authorizations.

11. Generates and mails monthly private pay statements.

12. Posts daily payments to patient accounts.

13. Ensure all patient account reconciliations are completed monthly.

14. Assists with delinquent accounts to be sent to collections.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in medical/psychiatric billing, preferred; Working knowledge and experience with CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCS coding is required.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and interpret instructions, documents and follow procedures.

Ability to write routine reports and speak effectively with patients and their families, employees and public.

 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables as needed. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Computer literate (working knowledge of Windows and other applications). Ability to work

independently.

The employee must occasionally assist or lift up to 50 pounds. Specific vision requirements are distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
