SUMMARY The Vice President for Finance & Operations is the chief financial officer for the college and also has primary responsibility for planning and administration of capital projects, the College physical plant, and certain auxiliary services.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Vice President for Finance and Operations is responsible to the President of the College for the administration of the fiscal and physical plant operations of the College. The position is an executive level administrative position with a broad scope of responsibilities and opportunities for leadership.
The Vice President will develop and manage a system of business and accounting services that will assure accuracy, legality, and efficiency in the fiscal affairs of the College. The Vice President will keep the President informed of the business affairs and financial condition of the College.
The Vice President is a member of the President's Staff and participates actively in long- and short-range planning and evaluation of College priorities and operations. As needed and as requested by the President, the Vice President will develop and present recommendations for the improvement of operations within the areas of Finance and Operations.
The Vice President serves as the chief purchasing agent and contract manager for the College, and is responsible for developing specific procedures to implement the Board of Trustees' policies on purchasing, investments, and financial management. Such procedures are typically submitted through the President's Staff to the President for approval.
The Vice President is active in participatory management within the College, and will interact with administrative and non-administrative employees individually and on various committees, including the Strategic Planning Council which has responsibility for continuous quality management of specified areas of the College.
The Vice President's external responsibilities include interaction and negotiations with various contractors, bidders, organizations, and individuals.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manages three subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 21 employees in the Business Office, Buildings and Grounds, Bookstore and Information Technology. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units. Directly supervises four non-supervisory employees. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring employees in accordance with established Human Resource procedures; training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Master's degree required. This position requires excellent skills in planning, management, supervision, and written and oral communications.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Ability to write and explain recommendations for complex projects and programs.
