Job Description
Maintain patient flow, support providers, assist and promote the delivery of primary and preventative health care. Perform technical procedures, and clinically oriented activities under nursing supervision. Perform various office duties as needed, filing, backup for secretarial staff.
Performs under general supervision, following standard procedures and accepted professional standards for office medical assistant procedures.
Directs patients to exam room for care. Obtains appropriate vital signs, chief complaint , designated testing and information per practice policy.
Documents this information in the patient’s electronic medical record.
Assists provider with patient care, and setting up for procedures procedures.
Responsible for maintaining the clinical environment in the practice. Maintains, cleans and stocks clinical and administrative supplies in exam rooms and in clinical areas. Performs quality control checks.
Performs lab functions and quality controls of approved waive testing including: urinalysis, urine hcg, FSBG.
Alerts the team nurse or provider of patient situations and test results which may require immediate attention Monitors patient safety and intervenes appropriately to assure safe patient care. Prepares for minor procedures and maintains special procedure equipment
Back up for absent clinical personnel.
Performs clerical duties, including filing, mail, data entry, answering telephones, routing calls, various back up duties as needed. Sorts and distributes mail and faxes, routing them appropriately.
Prescription renewal chart documentation entry, sends RXs to doctors for authorizaition. Performs all Prior Authorization RX duties.
Enters specific HMP from mail and faxes in chart., Performs various clerical duties as needed.
Functions as a member of the team and participates in nursing staff and staff meetings.
Identifies and assumes responsibility for personal professional growth and continued skill development by participating in appropriate hospital, and CHIM site specific educational programs.
Actively participates in CHIM Quality Improvement activities.
Incorporates the Highland Hospital PRIDE Performance Standards into daily functions .

Job Requirements
- Education: Associates Degree in Medical Assisting or successful completion and certification from an accredited Medical Assistant program. In lieu of degree or certification a minimum of two years of experience as a Patient Care Technician.
- Experience (minimum required): One to two years in outpatient care required.
- License/Certification Required: Based on education requirement met.
- Skills (to include equipment, software, etc.): Ability to perform under the stress of working with people who are ill and may be demanding. Ability to defuse or cope with anger and hostility in others. Effective interpersonal communication and problem solving skills. Ability to work collaboratively and courteously with others.
