What are the responsibilities and job description for the Floor Technician position at Hignell Inc?

Summary:

The Flooring Technician is responsible for the cleaning of all floor services, including carpet cleaning; floor stripping, buffing, and waxing. The Flooring Technician is also responsible for installation of carpet, wood and vinyl flooring products, performing preventative maintenance and repair work on carpeting and flooring surfaces.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspects floor service in order to determine proper cleaning method.
  • Performs a variety of routine floor cleaning tasks using appropriate tools and equipment, including use of a variety of power and hand tools, carpet cleaning equipment, and floor stripping and waxing equipment.
  • Installs a variety of flooring products, such as carpet, vinyl and wood.
  • Demonstrates responsible use and care for equipment, vehicles, tools, and other materials.
  • Demonstrates knowledge and skill in use of appropriate cleaning products for the job.
  • Operates assigned vehicle and various hand-held manual, electrical, and gas powered tools and equipment, i.e., mixers, sprayers, rollers, caulking guns, scrapers, sand blasters, pressure washers, and sets up scaffolding as needed.
  • Works independently with little supervision in the completion of assignments.
  • Establishes and maintains customer oriented focus.
  • Communicates politely and effectively with, and in front of, customers.
  • Works as part of a team with supervisors and co-workers.
  • Uses and applies appropriate safety practices and procedures in the performance of duties, including fall protection.
  • Requisitions and/or purchases supplies and materials, while maintaining various activity records and logs.
  • Complies with all applicable state, federal, and local laws related to the position.
  • Regular attendance.
  • Travel and work overtime as required.

Other Functions:

  • Performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position.
  • Supports and helps other floor specialists and maintenance employees as requested.
  • Assists on special projects as needed.
  • Ensures that Company tools, equipment, and vehicles are maintained in proper working condition.

Mental and Physical Demands:

  • Ability to lift and carry equipment and supplies, tools, equipment, and furniture weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Standing up to 8 hours per day; Walking up to 8 hours per day.
  • Regular and repetitive grasping, gripping, reaching, pushing, pulling, bending, stooping, crouching, climbing, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Ability to read and understand product labels and Material Safety Data Sheets.

  • High school diploma or GED. Additional education and/or training preferred.
  • Education, training, skills, and experience necessary to carry out assignments.
  • Ability to read, write, speak and communicate effectively. Demonstrated skill in correct grammar, spelling, and English usage.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with co-workers, administrative team, and the public.
  • Knowledge of basic carpet cleaning and floor cleaning techniques using standard tools, floor equipment, vacuums and carpet cleaning machinery.
  • Use and application on safety practices and procedures, including fall protection adherence.
  • Self motivated, punctual, detail oriented, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to read and understand custodial and maintenance equipment manuals.
  • Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s. Ability to perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume and distance.
  • Intermediate personal skills, including electronic mail, routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, etc.
  • Current California Driver’s License with excellent driving history.
