The Role

This position supports the development of the next submarine propulsion plant. This candidate will lead a portion of an overall design, the candidate should have experience working on and leading technical projects and should have good written and verbal communication skills.

Researches, develops, designs, and tests electrical components, equipment, systems, and networks. Designs electrical equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems for commercial, industrial, and domestic purposes.

Must Have

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of relevant exempt experience;
Master's Degree and 3 years of relevant professional experience;
Ph.D. and 0 years of experience.

Newport News Shipbuilding requires a Bachelor's Degree in engineering from an ABET accredited program.

Nice to Have

The candidate should have familiarity with power generation and distribution through experience with either commercial or military systems. Specific experience in the design/integration of one or more of the following areas is desired: power electronics, motors, motor drives, generators and protection systems and devices. Familiarity with submarine or carrier propulsion plant arrangement, operation and construction is desirable but not required. The candidate should have familiarity with utilizing electrical modeling and development tools including MATLAB/Simulink.
