Job Description

Machinists operate various machines (manual and/or CNC) such as; lathes, mills, vertical machining centers, horizontal boring mills, etc. Inside machinists troubleshoot operations and take appropriate actions to correct. The machinists perform quality inspections, verifying dimensions of work piece are in accordance with drawing specifications. Machinists are assigned responsibility for installing, grooming and testing the ship’s major mechanical components and systems. Work may occur on commercial or naval ships in various stages of new construction, overhaul or repair. Examples of ship’s components work on are steam turbines, reduction gears, propellers, reactor components, catapults, weapons systems, periscopes and can be as diverse as laundry, food service or refrigeration equipment. Outside machinist operate a wide variety of tools and machinery. The tools range from wrenches and screwdrivers to complex and sophisticated equipment such as saws, drill presses, optical equipment, mills, portable machines, boring equipment, precision grinders, instruments and lathes.

This is position for the 3rd Shift
Basic Qualifications
The candidate must be able to understand written instructions and strong math skills are essential. This is a construction environment involving extreme heights, confined spaces, physical labor and various weather conditions within a shipyard environment. Entry level candidates must pass Work keys testing requirements.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Mechanical experience such as Automotive Repair, Plant Maintenance, Machinery Installation/Repair is a plus. Successful completion of a technical/vocational program in Machining, Diesel Technology, Automotive, HVAC, Mechanical.
Prior CNC Machinist exp a plus. Completion of a CNC/Machinist/Precision Machining Certification/Diploma also a plus
Forklift and/or crane operations experienced is beneficial
