- Communication: Must have excellent listening and communication skills. Being able to listen attentively to customers’ orders and pass same information across to drivers is imperative to the success of deliveries. The dispatcher must also be able to sustain an open line of communication with the parties involved in the run – customer, manager, and driver
- Good map reading skills and ability to use GPRS devices to chart routes for the movement of the drivers is very important. He/she must be willing to work flexible schedules including working on weekends, holidays, and over time to meet the demands of the position
- Must exhibit a high level of emotional maturity and calmness to handle the stress associated with the position

Working as a dispatcher involves performing various duties, tasks, and responsibilities on a daily basis.
- Make necessary arrangement for the appropriate driver and truck to be employed for each run
- Keep track of the movement and progress of drivers and trucks
- Relay reports and work orders to Site Manager and Driver Manager
- Ensure timely dispatch of runs
- Assist drivers with uploading daily route sheets and work orders.
- Communication with shop regarding truck and trailer issues
- Separating and Filing haul sheets
- Calling site leaders to notate load counts, volumes and trailer counts.
- Observe driver start times and report to supervision.
- Inform management several times daily on findings and observations.
