Jewish Student Life Coordinator

Overview
In this role, you will focus on both engagement and programming for Cohen Hillel at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. You will be responsible for the outreach, engagement, and empowerment of upperclassmen as well as collaborating with Hillel’s Engagement Associate, staff, and student leadership to engage micro-communities on campus. You will also lead the staff in logistical support of Hillel’s bigger programmatic initiatives in order to create an active and vibrant Jewish community on campus.
What You’ll Do
- Develops and maintains relationships with students who have limited involvement in Jewish life, focusing on upperclassmen (juniors and seniors). Refers students to resources at Hillel and on campus.
- Identifies micro-communities (such as, Jewish Greek life, Jewish residence hall life, arts and culture, volunteerism, social justice, etc.) and creates opportunities for students to engage within those micro-communities.
- Empowers students to take leadership roles (including internships and board positions) in Jewish life on campus.
- Gives logistical support and participates in bigger Hillel programs such as Welcome week, Finals week, Holiday, and Shabbat programming,
- Works with students to identify missing content in Hillel’s programming calendar and plan one-off programs to fill gaps.
- Supports the day-to-day operations of Hillel including programs and events, administrative and organizational tasks, and welcoming students into Hillel spaces.
- Partakes in the recruitment and staffing for Taglit-Birthright Israel. Works with the Israel Fellow and other staff members to plan effective follow-up.
- Participates as a full member of The Hillels of Illinois Staff in local, regional, and national Hillel programs and programs of the Jewish Federation as appropriate.
- Supports JUF Campaign and mandatory campaign-related activities on an ongoing basis.
What You’ll Bring to the Job
- A Bachelor’s degree
- 0-2 years of post-college experience preferred.
- Passion for Jews and Judaism and Israel.
- Thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Confidence initiating and running programs.
- A dynamic personality and outstanding interpersonal skills.
- An entrepreneurial spirit, willingness to take risks and the ability to learn from efforts that don’t work out as planned.
- High organizational and people skills.
- Significant computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Google Docs, CRM, and social media.
- Must be willing to work evening programs and occasional weekend programs.
What You’ll Receive
- Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $42,000-45,000.
