Hip Wah Seeks Part-time Summer Classroom Teachers

Hip Wah Summer Program is one of the most successful and longest-running Chinese-American summer programs in the country. We are currently seeking part-time classroom teachers, June 24-July 22, for a fun and rewarding experience leading the following classes:

Incoming Second Grade "Monkey/Ram"

Incoming Third/Fourth Grade "Ram/Horse"

Incoming Seventh Grade "Hip Wah 3"

Hip Wah takes place at the Sheffield campus of Redwood Day School in Oakland. (Do not contact Redwood Day about these positions as we are a separate entity.) All grades have a set curriculum with lesson plans available. You can find more detailed descriptions for each position here.

Requirements:

- Minimum 2 years as a professional teacher in grades K-12, teaching credential preferred

- Interest in Chinese culture or language

- Classroom management skills

- Communication and organizational skills

- Collaboration and teamwork skills

- Experience with arts and crafts

- Commitment to creating diverse, equitable and inclusive learning

environments for all students

About Hip Wah:

Founded in 1984, Hip Wah Summer Program serves entering 1st through 7th graders of diverse ethnicities for four weeks each summer. Their day at camp is filled with fun activities where they experience Chinese culture, traditions, music, language, arts and crafts. They are supported by dedicated teachers and camp aides who help build a sense of community. The program culminates in a music festival where everyone participates with choral and instrumental music, dance, and martial arts. While Hip Wah's focus is on Chinese and Chinese-American culture, campers do not have to be Chinese to attend. For many, Hip Wah is an opportunity to discover their identity through community, friendship, culture, and fun. Hip Wah is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.
