JOB SUMMARY
Responsible for overseeing and monitoring students with attendance and enrollment issues. Assists students and families with referral and consultation services.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Advises school administration on students' attendance issues that are in violation of the Compulsory School Attendance Laws of Texas.
- Schedules and conducts home visits to investigate cases of non-attendance, counsels and provides appropriate information and/or referrals to parents, students, school staff members, and community agencies.
- Conducts daily phone contact with school attendance personnel to report results of investigations and follow-up on specific attendance problems.
- Documents results of consultation with parents, students, school staff members, and community agencies.
- Compiles and prepares court cases and represents HISD in court against person(s) having parental control as outlined in Section 4.25 of the Texas Education Code.

EDUCATION
Associate’s Degree
Equivalent and directly related education and experience, as determined by Human Resources and the hiring manager, may be accepted in lieu of an Associate’s Degree. Equivalent experience is 2 or more years in a related field in addition to the minimum experience requirement of 1 year.
WORK EXPERIENCE
1 to 3 years
SKILL AND/OR REQUIRED LICENSING/CERTIFICATION
Microsoft Office, Chancery
Office equipment (e.g., computer, copier)
LEADERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory or direct people management responsibilities. May provide occasional work guidance, technical advice and training to staff.
WORK COMPLEXITY/INDEPENDENT JUDGMENT
Work and tasks are often straightforward, routine, structured and guided by established policies and procedures. Little, if any, independent judgment is required, outside of making basic choices in the selection and application of established methods. The job receives frequent, ongoing supervision.
BUDGET AUTHORITY
No budget development activity is required.
PROBLEM SOLVING
Decisions are made on routine matters affecting few individuals and usually within the confines of the job's own department. Specific job activities and results are typically reviewed closely. There are limited requirements for developing new ideas or changes in methods, procedures or services.
IMPACT OF DECISIONS
Follows rules and procedures. Decisions can have minimal or no impact to HISD. Errors can be readily detected, usually by the employee, and, if made, would result in minor expense for correction.
COMMUNICATION/INTERACTIONS
Information sharing - gives and receives information such as options, technical direction, instructions and reporting results. Interactions are mostly with customers, own supervisor and coworkers in own and other departments.
CUSTOMER RELATIONSHIPS
Follows through with customer inquiries, requests and complaints. Forwards difficult and non-routine inquiries or requests to appropriate level for resolution.
WORKING/ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS
Work involves some exposure to moderate risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Ability to carry and/or lift less than 15 pounds.
