The Underwriter within Citi's Institutional Credit Management ("ICM") Credit Underwriting ABS team works with the ABS business team and ICM Credit Analysts to provide oversight of the underwriting of a multi-billion-dollar portfolio of asset securitization transactions financed primarily through the asset-backed commercial paper market. The Underwriter reviews the credit underwriting and provides a first line of defense credit sign-off of the transactions which are secured by various asset types (including auto, credit card, unsecured consumer loans). The Underwriter ensures consistent application of policies, standards and procedures to support the safety and soundness of wholesale lending in the ABS business.

Responsibilities:

  • Work proactively with the Origination team on pre-screening of new deal opportunities and review the initial collateral analysis, preliminary financial analysis, and "greenlight" memoranda. Provide guidance as to risk profile of the proposed transaction and adherence to guidelines.
  • Review indicative terms and conditions. Analyze due diligence results and sign off on proposed risk ratings.
  • Review and provide a first line of defense sign off on credit approval memos prepared by the ICM Credit Analysts prior to submission for approval by Risk (second line of defense) constituents.
  • Review and approve deal post-closing amendment, consent, and waiver requests,
  • Provide pertinent industry and asset class knowledge and credit expertise in the review and sign off of complex transactions
  • Review and sign-off on Quarterly Portfolio Reviews.
  • Work closely with the ICM Credit Analysts to help develop their credit assessment skills and enhance the advancement of their career paths.

Qualification and Experience :

  • 5 years of credit experience (preferably in structured finance/securitization) within a financial institution, rating agency, financial guarantor, or asset management firm.
  • Excellent credit analysis and underwriting and credit monitoring skills. Proficiency in Excel & Power Point.
  • Oral and written communications skills enabling one to effectively interact with internal and external constituents of all levels. Strong attention to detail. Ability to multi-task and manage projects and to meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to function well within a team environment which is formed to serve as a first line of defense in-business credit function and deliver best-in-class credit risk analysis and underwriting and management of the approval process.


Education:

  • Bachelor's/University degree, Master's degree preferred
