Tooling Repair/Jig Builder

Salary Range:$20.00 To 30.00 Hourly

Job Summary:  Fabricates and repairs tooling for production aircraft parts in accordance with approved specifications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Reading and interpreting blueprints, design schematics, CAD drawings and specifications.
2. Visualizing and computing metal shapes and tolerances.
3. Designing jigs and templates as work aids in the fabrication of tools/parts.
4. Measuring and marking metal stock for machining.
5. Setting up and running machine tools such as drills, lathes, grinders, and milling machines.
6. Cutting and shaping blocks to specified dimensions.
7. Filling, grinding, and shimming metals to ensure a smooth finish.
8. Fitting and assembling tools and die parts.
9. Inspecting finished dies and tools for defects, smoothness, and contour deformities.
10. Conducting test runs with completed tools.

REQUIREMENTS:

1. Experience working as a tool maker minimum 3-5 years or equivalent experience preferred.
2. Experience in Soft Tooling (Fiberglass layups and repairs), and Jig Building
3. Knowledge of machine tools and their uses.
4. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and tool design drawings.
5. Understanding the use of specifications.
6. Experience with metalworking tools including drills, milling machines, grinders, and lathes.
7. Ability to lift heavy objects and operate large machinery.
8. Experience with precision measuring instruments.
9. Excellent attention to detail.
10. Advanced troubleshooting skills.
11. Welding experience helpful
12. Basic ability to estimate time and materials helpful
